Broken Sword - Shadow of the Templars: Reforged Launches with Visual Overhaul
Broken Sword: Shadow of the Templars - Reforged has already debuted on PS5, and PC and Xbox releases are lined up. Studio Revolution Software showed off the changes to the visuals in a special trailer for the remaster.
Update (September 19)
Broken Sword – Shadow of the Templars: Reforged is launching on the market today. The updated version of the beloved adventure game is now available for purchase on PlayStation 5 (PS Store), and it will also be released on PC (Steam, GOG) and Xbox Series X/S consoles (Xbox Store) in the next few hours. Unfortunately, the Nintendo Switch release has been delayed at the last minute, and its premiere will now take place in October (via Eurogamer). The reason is the desire to refine this version of the game.
Original news (August 19)
Broken Sword: Shadow of the Templars - Reforged, a refreshed version of the cult classic from 1996, is currently one of the most anticipated titles for fans of traditional adventure games. Players looking forward to the premiere of this title should be interested in the newly released video material.
The trailer reveals the launch date, which has been set for September 19th of this year. The material also presents the graphical improvements that this edition of the game will offer.
- The devs have created new versions of all the animations, with each background being repainted to look good in high resolutions.
- The last one needed a lot of effort - the developers revisited the original sketches from the prototype and recolored them anew.
The devs must ensure a significant leap in quality, as the game has already received one remaster in the form of the 2009 release Broken Sword: Shadow of the Templars – The Director's Cut. The Reforged version should not only look better than the original from 1996.
To succeed, developers will need to provide noticeable improvements compared to the reissued version from 15 years ago. Based on the just-released trailer, it seems that they will be able to achieve this task, especially since the new version will enable you to play in 4K, a resolution with fifty times more pixels than the game's original version released on PSOne (which the devs boasted about on the official PlayStation blog).
Broken Sword: Shadow of the Templars – Reforged is coming to PC and Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, Nintendo Switch, and PlayStation 5.
