Beautiful New Game from Ori Devs is More Dark Souls Than Diablo
The upcoming action RPG No Rest for the Wicked is more reminiscent of the Dark Souls series than Diablo - at least according to the developers. The title will require the player to choose the right strategy for combat.
Some players may have been discouraged by the camera positioning and gameplay of the upcoming game from the devs of the Ori series, which at first glance resembles that of Diablo, especially if they were tired of the clichéd premise of the action RPG genre. Moon Studios developers spoke to IGN in an interview that might pique the interest of skeptical players. The devs disclosed that No Rest for the Wicked bears a closer resemblance to the popular series by the FromSoftware team.
The combat in this game will be extremely "realistic." The developers focused specifically on the weapon animations for "swinging" to ensure that the fights were as satisfying as they possibly could be. Similar to the Dark Souls series, some attacks in No Rest for the Wicked seem slow, and fights unfold with only a few opponents at most, instead of "20 [or more] opponents at once" - in contrast to the "Diablo."
So, the game will require a more strategic approach than typical "slashers" and the selection of appropriate tactics. For instance: the first boss in No Rest for the Wicked is worth attacking with fire. Nevertheless, the challenging battles in Moon Studios' upcoming game will offer a feeling of accomplishment:
We want to get your [players] heart rate as high as possible. We want you to start thinking: 'How am l going to do this? How am I going to beat this? This is relentless. This is impossible. 'And then, little by little, it's like a puzzle that you figure out throughout the fight.
Moreover, No Rest for the Wicked will differ from the Diablo or Path of Exile series (here also from Souls) in the lack of mana. Instead, the game will feature a focus that will fill as the player "fights better." Thanks to it, we will enhance our runes, which provide special abilities and unlock "really crazy moves."
The game will also provide a high level of freedom for customizing weapons. As one of the devs explains:
[...], but yours [bloody sword] could be a fire-enchanted one that gives you more focus for every hit that you deal. Other guy could have a cursed blood-rested sword that deals more damage, but you also take more damage, and so on.
The release date for No Rest for the Wicked is still unknown, but we will learn more details about the game on the first of March during the Moon Studios stream.
