Ambitious GTA 5 mod took down after talks with Rockstar Games. It ported Liberty City from GTA 4 to GTA 5
Rockstar Games took down another ambitious GTA mod. This time, the Liberty City Preservation Project, which ported a map from GTA 4 to GTA 5, was hit.
If you were interested in the Liberty City Preservation Project mod, which transfers the map from GTA 4 to GTA 5, but have been putting off checking it out, you won't be able to do that anymore. The group behind this ambitious modification, World Travel, announced yesterday on their Discord server that it has been removed from the Internet.
Due to the unexpected attention our project received and after speaking with Rockstar Games, we have decided to take down the Liberty City Preservation Project. We appreciate all the support that the project has received, and we look forward to continuing to pursue our passion for modding the Grand Theft Auto series.
It's hard to talk about surprise - after all, this is not the first popular GTA mod that has been "killed" by Rockstar Games studio. Right after the launch, players speculated that the Liberty City Preservation Project might meet such a fate. Especially since it's been rumored in industry circles for a while that a remaster of GTA 4 is on the Rockstar's agenda.
The statement from the mod creators appears quite diplomatic, though they are clearly frustrated - they accomplished an amazing job by bringing NPCs, vehicles, sound effects, and even a fully operational subway system from GTA 4 to GTA 5. We can only guess what lies behind the words "after speaking with Rockstar Games." However, we know that in many similar cases, the studio simply threatened the modders with a lawsuit if they didn't remove their work from the internet.
