After Elden Ring DLC, FromSoftware Might Explore Procedurally Generated World. Miyazaki on Path to Create 'Ideal Fantasy RPG'

Hidetaka Miyazaki still hasn't created his „ideal RPG,” although Elden Ring is very close to one. The biggest problem is that, as a creator, he knows his own games by heart.

It's easy to guess that Hidetaka Miyazaki, who brought us titles such as Dark Souls, Bloodborne, and Elden Ring, is an avid fan of RPG games. After all, all of the positions mentioned above are part of this genre and are considered outstanding games by fans. Despite this, according to the developer, none of them is the "ideal fantasy RPG game" he dreamed of.

Back when doing interviews about Elden Ring, I think I mentioned that I'm still in the process of making my ideal fantasy RPG. And while Elden Ring is not quite it, it's pretty close. It's getting close.

When asked what elements are still missing in the game, Miyazaki couldn't say too much, as he would reveal ideas for future projects. However, he pointed out that achieving the ideal is made more difficult by the fact that he knows his own games. This is completely understandable because if we put him in the role of a player, he really wouldn't be able to enjoy "Elden" as much as the rest of the people. After all, he developed that game and probably knows it by heart.

I already know everything that's going on. So in terms of enjoying the game from a player's perspective, I'd love to not know that, and for somebody else to make my ideal fantasy game, please, if possible. Then I can enjoy it just as a player.

At first glance, the problem seems quite difficult to solve, but apart from the short-term amnesia proposed in the interview, there may be another way - a procedurally generated world. Using this technique, Miyazaki could play his game, not knowing what awaits him.

It's worth noting that FromSoftware studio is unafraid to experiment with their own games, so it's possible that they may attempt something similar in the future. The devs have some experience in this matter, especially considering that Bloodborne already featured randomly generated Chalice Dungeons.

Despite everything, these are just speculations, and only Miyazaki and his team know what they will present in the future. For now, we are left counting down - on the fingers of one hand - the days until the premiere of Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree, which will be released on June 21.
