Today at 9:00 a.m. PT, we will find out which titles are nominated for The Game Awards 2024. Before that, the organizers posted an updated FAQ online that explains which games will be considered. The list includes expansions, remasters, and remakes.

Games considered for TGA 2024

This topic has caused quite a stir among players in the past. Some were, for instance, opposed to nominating refreshed titles, because they are just old games in new clothes. Others, on the contrary, considered it fair, taking into account the level presented by some of them. It's worth noting that last year, Resident Evil 4 Remake was nominated for the Game of the Year award, among others. This time the organizers clearly clarified this issue.

This means that among the titles nominated for the main award, we may see Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree. The DLC is larger than many full-fledged games, and it currently holds the top position on Metacritic among this year's best titles. Furthermore, we shouldn't forget about Silent Hill 2 Remake, which may also be among the nominated games.

Players' mixed reactions

As you might expect, player reactions are quite mixed. Negative opinions prevail regarding expansions, claiming that they are just an excuse to take into account the Shadow of the Erdtree. Despite the great execution, it's still part of the old game, so it shouldn't be considered. Many people also pointed out that adding a separate category for DLC would solve the problem.

A larger divide exists when it comes to remakes and remasters. While players generally agree that the latter shouldn't be taken into account, the former provokes discussions.

Full-fledged remakes often offer more than just a graphical refresh. They often add new mechanics or additional content, and there are cases when they even make changes in the plot. For this reason many people have pointed out that these are practically new games, so they should be included. On the other hand, some people claim that it is still a game based on another one, so its development doesn't require as much creativity.

Let's recall that The Game Awards 2024 gala will take place on December 13 from 4:30 to 8:00 p.m. PT.
