A Giant Battle Just Took Place in EVE Online
A giant space battle took place in the space MMO EVE Online, featuring the most powerful class of ships - the so-called Titans. Vessels worth hundreds of thousands of dollars were destroyed.
IN A NUTSHELL:
- EVE Online recently seend the end of the bloodiest battle in the game's, or even the genre's history;
- More than 240 of the most powerful vessels, Titan class ships worth several hundred thousand dollars, were destroyed in the clashes between Imperium and PAPI coalition;
- PAPI has managed to destroy the armour of Imperium's star fortress;
- More fighting is likely to follow on Saturday.
It seems that EVE Online has seen (yetanother) most expensive battle in the history of MMO games. The battle took place in M2-XFE system and the forces of PAPI coalition and Imperium (under the leadership of Goons / Goonswarm Federation guild) took part in it. About 6 thousand people were involved in the battle.
The aggressor was the PAPI alliance, whose aim was to destroy the mighty star fortress belonging to Imperium (the so-called Keepstar). It is worth noting that the battle featured might Titan class vessels - the biggest ships we can find in the game. 244 of them were destroyed (123 on the side of Imperium and 121 belonging to PAPI). The total value of these ships is more than 21.3 trillion ISK, or $242,495 in terms of real money. It is worth noting that these are not the only ships lost in this battle, because apart from the Titans thousands of other vessels were destroyed.
The battle has concluded and the server was restarted, but it can be expected that in a few days' time we will see another, perhaps even bloodier, struggle. This will happen when the game once again enables players to attack a star fortress. In a nutshell - Keepstar stations and similar objects in EVE Online have several "layers", such as shields, armor or structure. When external protection is destroyed, the star fortress becomes invulnerable to damage for some time. PAPI has managed to break the armor of Imperium's station. In an announcement released after today's clash, PAPI leaders informed their players that the next mobilization will take place on Saturday. Then the attackers will want to achieve the final destruction of the fortress.
Where did such amount come from?
Crowd Control Productions company has included in its game a solution that enables users to pay a monthly subscription using ISK - virtual currency inside the game (the same one in which the whole galaxy trades). This makes it possible to convert the value of ISK in the real world, into dollar for example - and thus count how much each ship, station and other item is worth. This is where the astronomical sums come from, sometimes mentioned in texts similar to this.
