Bridges or tunnels | Building and management Mashinky Guide
Last update: 17 October 2017
With large number of connections and high density of railroads, you will create many branches and crossroads. You will quickly discover that it is a good way to block traffic and to create a negative impact on the fluency of your trains. Creating bridges or tunnels solves many problems: the trains don't need to block the line anymore, they can easily pass by other routes and they keep the fluency on the lines. The question remains, what is better - bridges or tunnels?
Bridges
Advantages: can be build quickly, they don't use much space, can be added to existing hills, longer bridges aren't as expensive as tunnels, can be placed above water tanks.
Disadvantages: only roads or railroads can be under bridges - you can't build them above buildings, stations, factories or rails with semaphores. Better bridges require more tokens, speed limitations.
Tunnels
Advantages: you can build constructions above them; they can be under every object, trains ride with same speed in tunnels as on regular rails.
Disadvantages: expensive, the longer the tunnel the greater the price, they require more place at entrance and exit, you can't place semaphores in them.
Placing bridges and tunnels usually require you to first think whether you really need them. In many situations you will place a bridge because it is cheaper and it serves its purpose despite some limitations. If you're building a long bridge, you can separate it with hills with semaphores. However, in some places each field is important. If you need semaphores in specific place, it is better to place a tunnel. It requires more funds, but provides more possibilities and freedom in building.
