The sequence of events and performed actions is of great importance in Legends of Runeterra. All actions that are performed during the game take place from left to right - both unit' attacks and spell activation.

By following this rule you can end a duel to your advantage by deploying units in a proper way or by using appropriate spells. Let's analyze the situation from the picture above.

1. The player attacks with two units: 5/3 and 10/2.
2. The enemy defends himself with two units: 4/3 and 0/2 of which Anivia's Egg has a Barrier keyword (let's recall that Barrier negates the next damage the unit would take).
3. Darius has the Overwhelm keyword, which causes the excess damage to be dealt to an enemy Nexus. Due to the fact that the blocking opponent has a Barrier, Darius' attack will be completely neutralized.
4. By using a single quick Whirling Death spell, the 5/3 unit will attack the 0/2 unit and shatter the Barrier. This will add 8 excessive damage points that can be used by Darius to inflict even more damage to enemy Nexus. This is it - game over!
