Is Hades 2 a prequel?
No - Hades 2 is not a prequel. The game takes place after the events of Hades and is a direct continuation of them - it is set in the same world and features the same characters, as well as many new ones. The game therefore assumes that you are familiar with the events of its predecessor - specifically, the ending of its main storyline and the epilogue after the end credits.
Do you need to play the first installment?
You don't necessarily have to play the previous part of the series to have fun with Hades 2 - but it is definitely recommended. Both games are mechanically similar, and Hades 2 directly continues the events of its predecessor. This means that when playing the second part, you will get spoilers from the first game right from the very beginning.
Although the plot of the sequel can be understood without playing the first game, it resonates much more strongly if you are familiar with the original. The motivation of the main heroine becomes much more emotional, as you will already deeply know the characters she is trying to help. For these reasons, we recommend that you familiarize yourself with the first game before approaching the sequel - or at least its main plot all the way to the end credits, if you are not interested in the epilogue.
