Fields of Mourning are the third area in Hades 2. They significantly differ in structure from the other areas, as they are composed of huge chambers containing several rewards. Although they are not as dangerous as Oceanos, the Fields of Mourning will test your endurance and ability to deal with dangerous enemies. On this page of the guide, we have described the Fields of Mourning, their unique features, dangerous enemies and mini-bosses.

Fields of Mourning's features
Fields of Mourning is the third location in the game, placed immediately after Oceanos. The increase in difficulty level is not as drastic as in the previous area, although the region is vast and filled with powerful enemies who will test your skills.
Fields of Mourning begin in Chamber 26. Chamber 31 is the last empty room before the boss fight. In Chamber 32, you will face the boss of the location, the Infernal Beast. Chamber 33 is the passage to the next region of the game, Tartarus. In the region, you will also encounter two mini-bosses, which you can find after passing through the doors marked with a small skull.
The main special feature of the Fields of Mourning is their unique structure. They consist of a small number of huge chambers containing many prizes. You will find main prizes (the same ones as the symbols on the door to the room) and minor ones. All the rewards are located in different parts of the room - you can take the smaller prizes right away, but interacting with the main ones will summon a group of opponents that you must eliminate first. Collecting all the main rewards will allow you to move to the next room.
Since the rooms are large and easy to get lost in, there are gold leaves scattered on the ground leading to individual rewards. After your first visit to this area, you will also unlock the Reviving a Mournful Husk incantation, which will activate Golden Boughs - small trees scattered throughout the large chambers of the Fields of Mourning. When interacted with them, they will show you exactly where all the rewards in the room are located.
Instead of traps, you will encounter thorns and miasma. The thorns are immobile and will not harm you if you stay away - they only deal damage when touched. Miasma, on the other hand, is a red sludge that oozes out of water tanks, slowly crawling across the map. If you touch it, Melinoe will be significantly slowed down for a few seconds, which can be problematic during combat.
Enemies in the Fields of Mourning
While the region itself is not as dangerous as Oceanos, the enemies can pose a challenge. These are:
- Sowers of Sorrow - a weaker variation of the mini-boss from Erebus, Shadow-Spiller. You fight him exactly the same way.
- Reed-Stalkers - a weaker variation of the mini-boss from Erebus, Root-Stalker. You fight him exactly the same way.
- Blight-Shade - small, flying enemies that shoot single projectiles. They do not pose a threat individually, but usually attack in groups - fortunately, they have very little health, so they are easy to eliminate.
- Blood-Shade - shades that attack by charging towards you. They are very fast, and their charge allows them to move through Casts (although they still get slowed down). Try to get rid of them as quickly as possible.
- Bloat-Shade - large shades that attack by swelling up, dealing damage to a small area around them. Be careful when fighting armored shades - your attacks cannot stagger them while they are armored, meaning you will have to dodge their attacks.
- Bawlders - rolling boulders that try to roll right into you. Attack them from behind, as they turn slowly and can only hurt you if you are standing in front of them.
- Smackers - jaws that attack by biting or hitting the ground around them. They usually appear in groups, so Casts will work great against them.
- Holehearts - ghouls with holes in their chests, leaving explosive mines on the ground. Be careful when fighting them, as the arena will quickly turn into a minefield. The faster you get rid of them, the fewer mines there will be on the map.
- Mourners - four-armed ghosts that attack with a hail of punches while moving towards you. You can bind them with a Cast or stagger them to interrupt their attacks.
- Lycaons - durable werewolves that use melee attacks and also summon hordes of melee-oriented Canines. Trap your enemies with a Cast - get rid of the Canines first, and a Lycaon shouldn't be a problem for you.
- Lamia - snake witches that attack with red lightning that lock on to you. They should be priority targets - while the Lamias are alive, you will have to constantly run from place to place to avoid the lightning bolts.
Materials in the Fields of Mourning
In the Fields of Mourning, you will gather the following unique materials:
- Myrtle - white flowers picked by hand, without any tools;
- Glass Rock - material mined with a pickaxe;
- Wheat - seeds collected with a spade and then planted at the Crossroads.
Special rooms in the Fields of Mourning
A special encounter in the Fields of Mourning (i.e. the unique room, where the NPC exclusive to a given region will give you unique bonuses) is Echo. She gives you a special bonus that is always useful - it can be, for example, a temporary increase in maximum health and magick, a random boon from your previous expedition, or a duplicate of the last reward you found. If the last item you picked up before meeting Echo was Daedalus Hammer, you can get an extra hammer this way.
How to defeat Queen Lamia?
Queen Lamia is one of the two mini-bosses you will encounter in the Fields of Mourning. She is the easier of the two opponents, as she is just a stronger version of regular Lamias. There are also several Lamia minions during the fight - get rid of them as quickly as possible or they will cover the entire map with lightning. Be careful - Lamias are located on tiny islands, which you can only reach by dashing. If you dash onto an island, you'll be stuck there until your dash recharges, which can be a problem when lightning is flying at you.
The enemy has three attacks:
- Lightning - The Queen's most common attack. She fires three lightning bolts that follow you. The boss is initially armored, so you can't stagger her to stop the attack - you have to keep running away from the lightning until it disappears.
- Missile - The Queen fires a homing orb of energy. You have to keep avoiding it until it disappears - fortunately, it is quite slow and has a wide turn radius.
- Miasma - The Queen creates a miasma that will slow you down if it touches you. Go around the boss or move away from her and she shouldn't cause you any problems.
Try to eliminate the remaining Lamias as quickly as possible, running around the arena to avoid the lightning and attacking any Lamia you come close to. Once you eliminate these enemies, focus on the Queen - without her minions, she shouldn't pose a big challenge.
How to defeat the Phantom?
The Phantom is one of the two mini-bosses you will encounter in the Fields of Mourning. He is the tougher of the two opponents, as he is very resilient, completely resistant to being stunned, and can heal himself when he hits you. During the fight, he is accompanied by a horde of Blight-Shades, which you should get rid of first with the help of your Cast.
The enemy has three attacks:
- Sucking in air - The Phantom raises both claws to the sides and begins to suck in air, trying to pull you towards him. Go around him, because the stream of air is very narrow.
- Slashes - The Phantom raises one claw and makes two straight slashes. Dash through the boss to avoid the attack.
- Stab - The Phantom raises both claws and stabs straight ahead. Dash through the boss to avoid the attack.
While fighting the Phantom, try to stick to the boss's back. You cannot stun him, and his attacks only deal damage directly in front of him. When the boss turns around, be ready to dash away. You have to be careful - mistakes will hurt you and heal the boss, prolonging the fight.
