Watch Dogs Video Game Series
A series of third-person open-world action games, launched by the game released in 2014 Watch Dogs. Its subsequent installments are overseen by development studios belonging to its publisher, the French company Ubisoft. The series has made its presence felt both on personal computers and on seventh, eighth and ninth generation consoles.
Games under the banner of Watch Dogs tell the story of the fight of hackers against increasingly authoritarian governments in various parts of the world. The first part of the series took us to Chicago from the near future, and its main protagonist was Aiden Pearce, a loner seeking revenge for the death of his niece and trying to destroy the Central Operating System (ctOS) that enables mass surveillance of citizens. Watch Dogs 2 moved us to San Francisco, where as Marcus Holloway, a member of the local faction of the hacking group known as DedSec, we fought against ctOS, while ensuring that our faction's image was appropriate. The action of the third installment of the series, i.e. Watch Dogs: Legion, was instead set in post-Brexit London under the rule of Albion, a private military organization. The production did not have one main character, as players, who once again came to stand in the ranks of DedSec, could recruit any resident of the city to the group, and then take direct control over him.
In games under the banner of Watch Dogs we are presented with vast open worlds encompassing cities and surrounding areas. The maps are traversed both on foot (which is made more attractive by the possibility, developed in the second installment of the series, to overcome terrain obstacles in a skillful, parkour way), as well as behind the controls of various vehicles and machines. The action is presented from a third-person perspective (TPP), and the tasks pushing the plot forward are accompanied by various optional activities. At the same time, the productions allow both to act silently and to engage in an open exchange of fire with enemies. What sets the series apart Watch Dogs, are the futuristic gadgets. At their head is a smartphone, which, when connected to ctOS, allows hacking the environment; thanks to it, we can, among other things, take control of the city's CCTV and traffic lights, remotely manipulate vehicles, hack into the phones of passersby in the vicinity or, finally, obtain detailed information about passing people. The last aspect of gameplay has been significantly developed in Watch Dogs: Legionin which each NPC has a unique appearance, personality, past and predispositions projecting his potential specialization.
In addition to the story campaign, each game under the banner of Watch Dogs has a multiplayer mode allowing multiplayer play over the Internet.
For the first time about the game Watch Dogs was heard at E3 2012, when Ubisoft showed the world video footage of the supposedly proper gameplay. The production debuted in May 2014, and as it turned out, its debut presentation fell short of reality. Compared to it, the visuals were noticeably deteriorated, first of all, making the Watch Dogs became for many gamers synonymous with the so-called downgrade. Although the game came to PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, as well as PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and Nintendo Wii U, its sequel, the November 2016 released Watch Dogs 2, has now appeared only on PC and eighth-generation consoles. Watch Dogs: Legion, the third installment in the series, will also be a cross-generation title, and will come to the ninth generation of consoles, namely the PlayStation 5 and Xbox X Series, in addition to PCs, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

A sequel to Watch Dogs, a sandbox action game from 2014, in which the players assume the role of a former criminal and use his hacking skills as well as a number of gadgets to control the city infrastructure as well as private communication devices. Watch Dogs 2 develops the key gameplay elements of its predecessor; the action, however, was moved to an entirely new city, and now takes place in San Francisco. The game was developed by Ubisoft’s internal development studios lead by Ubisoft Montreal. Contrary to first installment, Watch Dogs 2 was created solely with PCs and the 8th-generation consoles, such as PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, in mind.
