Sherlock Holmes: Crimes and Punishments

Another installment in the popular series of adventure games developed by Frogwares. A few years age the series became available for console players as well. Once again, the player takes on the role of the most famous detective of all times, Sherlock Holmes, and together they will solve various criminal riddles. The story takes place in the Victorian London well known from previous installments of the series. The protagonist will have six different cases to solve, including murders, kidnappings, and robberies. The gameplay mechanics were slightly changed in comparison to previous installments. Now, the player is frequently required to make tough moral choices that impact both the gameplay and the endings of the game. For the first time in the series, the game uses the advanced Unreal Engine 3 thanks to which it looks much better.

The action of the game takes place in 1898 in London, where the legendary detective Sherlock Holmes is trying to solve a case in which the main suspect is himself. Unable to prove his innocence, the hero loses the trust of the citizens and is forced to flee from the police. This time, Holmes' reputation depends on the outcome of the investigation.

The ninth major installment in the action adventure game series developed by Frogwares, dealing with the exploits of the world most famous sleuth. The plot, as per tradition, takes us to the streets of the Victorian-era London, where Sherlock Holmes and his inseparable companion, Dr. Watson, have to solve five all-new crime puzzles, in which they face, among others, dark family secrets and mysterious cults. In terms of gameplay mechanics, Sherlock Holmes: The Devil's Daughter follows the direction set by three previous installments of the series, combining elements typical to adventure games with sequences characteristic of action games. In accordance with modern standards, the game offers also the option to move freely through the streets of London and a non-linear storyline that changes dynamically depending on the player's choices. The game features visuals created for the next-generation consoles, which makes it the most visually impressive installment in the series so far.

A first person psychological horror adventure game inspired of 19th-century paintings and architecture. It was created by Polish developer Bloober Team, known for such titles as BRAWL, A-Men and Music Master: Chopin. The game is set in an ominous manor, while you assume the role of an insane painter striving to finish his masterpiece at all cost. Gameplay boils down to exploration, as the player searches for the source of the hero’s madness and the tools needed to complete the painting. While playing, you experience strange visions and fears born in the protagonist’s mind, making the task much more complicated. The game is soaked with dark, psychedelic atmosphere, which is further deepened by fitting audiovisuals.

An economic strategy simulation game, created by Dutch studio Gamious. It is set in the 19th century America, during the oil drilling rush. You play as one of the daredevils who trust their luck and dream of an oil tycoon career, possibly also resulting in them becoming a mayor of some American town. You start the game by purchasing the necessary licenses and setting out to search for the deposits, and then finally you build your wells, where you extract the oil. As your business develops, you invest in upgrades, which increase the efficiency of your work and the amount of extracted resources. You also have to care for the proper storage and profitable selling of the oil on the local market, while by monitoring your competitors' activities, you may e.g. enter into various shady arrangements to undermine them.

A first-person shooter set in the Wild West. Developed by the Polish developer, Techland, it is the fourth entry in the Call of Juarez series. We play as a bounty hunter, Silas Greaves, who recalls his adventures in the Wild West. The game’s campaign is divided into missions, during which the player has to bring down many legendary outlaws and gunmen (Billy Kid, Pat Garret, Jesse James, and others). Unlike previous games, Call of Juarez: Gunslinger introduces a more arcade style of gameplay. Three-dimensional graphics use the cel-shading technology, resulting in a comic book-like visuals.

A stealth game set in a spaghetti western setting, developed by Honig studio. It takes place in an alternative version of The Wild West, based on Sergio Leone’s movies. The protagonist – the titular El Hijo – looks for his missing father, traversing places filled with dangers: from an orphanage he was raised in, through a desert full of monster, and up to a town ruled by merciless gunslingers. Due to the fact that the boy has no chance of defeating any of those threats, the gameplay is based on hiding behind objects and sneaking behind opponents’ backs. El Hijo’s interface helps with that, constantly showing the enemy range and field of sight. There is also a wide variety of items and gadgets to use. El Hijo uses characteristic, good-looking visuals based on cartoon style, with simple shapes and contrasts.

The player takes command of one side of the American Civil War and tries to tip the scales of victory to his advantage. The game combines elements of strategy, arcade and shooters of the kind of "target sight".

A city-builder developed by Triskell Interactive. The player assumes the role of the mayor of a promising town in the world of Lethis – a steampunk universe with a dose of fantasy elements. Our job is to lead the settlement to become a successful and thriving city. To do that, we need to have access to certain resources and able workers – both these elements unlock access to new buildings and technologies. The economic model is quite developed – we are left with more than 24 types of resources, while the population is discerned by 15 professions. Additionally, the mayor has to make sure that the inhabitants are content, as well as maintain peaceful relations with other cities. Aside from an extensive single player campaign, Lethis: Path of Progress contains a more relaxed sandbox mode. The game uses eye-friendly, two-dimensional graphics with a slightly cartoonish design.

A legal adventure game inspired by the works of J.J. Grandville, a French caricaturist. It was developed by the independent studio Sketchy Logic Games. The action of Aviary Attorney is set in an alternative version of the 19th-century Paris inhabited by humanoid animals. It tells the story of two characters: a falcon lawyer named Jayjay Falcon and his assistant, a sparrow by the name of Sparrowson, who try to clear their clients of charges during subsequent trials. As far as gameplay mechanics are concerned, Aviary Attorney draws a lot of inspiration from the Ace Attorney series for Nintendo consoles. Each case is therefore divided into two parts: first, questioning witnesses and gathering evidence, and then using the acquired knowledge in the court. The game’s visuals are based on 19th-century illustrations and works of Grandville himself – they were scanned and supplemented with numerous animations.

A strategy-adventure text-based game inspired by the classic novel Around the World in 80 Days by Jules Verne. In the production, developed by the British studio inkle, we play as Phileas Fogg's new servant named Passepartout (in the Polish version of the novel: Obiezyswiat). Our task will be to support our employer on his way to win a lucrative bet by taking care of all the elements of this journey around the world. The gameplay mechanics is an evolution of solutions used in classic paragraph games.

Close to the Sun is a horror adventure game developed by Storm in a Teacup. The production takes us to an alternative version of the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries, where thanks to Nikola Tesla's inventions the development of civilization has significantly accelerated. The player takes on the role of a journalist who, while searching for her missing sister, finds himself on board a giant seagoing ship designed by Tesla for research and experimentation. As he embarks on board, he discovers that something terrifying has happened there, leading to the appearance of bloodthirsty beasts and the death of most of the crew. While playing, we observe the event from a first-person perspective, exploring locations and solving puzzles. Much of the fun has a sneaky character - we must avoid detection by monsters, and in the event of failure, save ourselves by escaping.
