Turmoil Description
Turmoil for PC, AND and iOS is a economic strategy simulation game set in the 19th century America, during the oil drilling rush. The game was developed by small Dutch studio Gamious, the creators of several quite good mobile games.
Mechanics
In Turmoil you play as a 19th century oil prospector, dreaming of getting rich quickly and becoming an oil tycoon, who might one day also become a mayor of an American town. Following the purchase of a plot of land rich in black gold deposits and getting all the necessary licenses, you start drilling by building your first oil wells. As your business develops, you invest in upgrades, which increases the efficiency of your work and the amount of extracted resources. There are many opportunities, but your assets are always limited, so you need a bit of luck and some proper budget management to succeed.
However, there's more to do in the game than just drilling. The oil needs to be stored, so you have to build proper containers. You also need to deliver it to your customers and set a right selling price in order to profit from your sales. It's also important to monitor the activities of your competitors, who can take advantage of your mistakes, even the smallest ones. You can undermine them by dealing with various characters and engaging in, not strictly speaking legal, business.
Technical aspects
Turmoil for PC, AND and iOS features simple but clear and neat old-school visuals. You see the world in a cross-sectional view, complemented by necessary maps and charts. The game resembles simple strategy productions of the 1980s and 1990s, such as Lost Dutchman Mine for Amiga and Atari ST.
