Mechanics

Sonic Forces: Speed Battle for AND and iOS is a multiplayer action racing game. The game uses a free-to-play distribution model and was developed by Hardlight, a British subsidiary of Sega. The same developer also created other Sonic games, including Sonic Dash, Sonic Dash 2: Sonic Boom and Sonic Jump.

Plot

The game is a spin-off of Sonic Forces, a title that debuted on consoles and personal computers. As a multiplayer-focused title, it lacks typical plot. Instead, the game simply takes locations and characters from the above-mentioned Sonic Forces.

Mechanics

Sonic Forces: Speed Battle for AND and iOS combines features of a racing game and a runner action game. The players are competing with each other on routes that are filled with obstacles and traps. Whoever reaches the finish line first is the winner.

The camera is located behind the back of the protagonist, who is automatically running forward. Each track is split into a few routes and player can jump between them with simple gestures. Jumps and slides are activated in similar way. These movements are used to avoid obstacles and dangers. Maps are filled with numerous objects that make running easier (for example, rings that accelerate the protagonist or catapults that throws him far ahead). There are also dangerous traps like spikes and mines on the maps.

During the game the player is collecting various, manually activated special items that provide a few seconds bonus to movement speed, shoot projectiles at enemies etc.

Two key aspects distinguish this game from other runners. The tracks have a beginning and an end and the gameplay is multiplayer-focused. Up to four players can participate in races and fight for the first place. Attacking enemies with various items and ramming them into traps and obstacles are of key importance in Sonic Forces: Speed Battle for AND and iOS.

During the game players can unlock new characters and gather virtual currency that enables them to upgrade skills of characters.
