Mount & Blade II: Bannerlord
RPG
October 25, 2022
A sequel to the popular Mount & Blade game series, which skillfully combined action with strategy and RPG elements. The sequel was developed by the creators of the original game – Turkish developer TaleWorlds. The story throws you right into the dark Medieval Times, forcing you to adapt to that harsh reality. Two of the game's most characteristic features are the open world and complete freedom to your actions. In order to gain fame and fortune, you have to prove yourself as a tactician, a diplomat, and a fighter. Similarly to its predecessor, the game consists of two gameplay layers. The strategic layer is set on a map, where you travel from one place to another and plan your overall strategy. The other one is action – where you take part in dynamic battles, sitting on a horseback or on foot, with a wide array of various weapons at your disposal in either first or third person perspective.

Mount & Blade: Warband
RPG
September 16, 2016
A standalone expansion to Mount & Blade, a popular game by TaleWorlds Studios, which gained acclaim for being a unique combination of strategy game and action-RPG. The developers responded to community feedback implementing an array of innovations and improvements to enrich the gameplay. First of all, artificial intelligence of commanders and vassals was significantly improved and the diplomacy options were expanded, giving you more control over your lands. Another thing that went through much improvement were the game’s visuals. However, the biggest novelty is the multiplayer gameplay for up to 64 people playing together in one of 7 different game modes. Warband features all locations present in the original Mount & Blade, as well as a brand new faction - the Sarranid Sultanate - and lots of new missions.

An adventure game from Daedalic Entertainment, based on a popular history novel written by Ken Follet, entitled The Pillars of the Earth. The game of the same title is set in the 12th-century, in the tumultuous period known as the Anarchy. As for the game’s mechanics, The Pillars of the Earth is no different from a typical adventure game with gameplay based on exploration of different locations, conducting conversations, and solving various logic puzzles.
Ancestors Legacy
Strategy
August 13, 2019
Ancestors Legacy is a complex real-time strategy game developed by the Polish independent studio Destructive Creations. The game takes place in Medieval times and its single player campaign is based on the actual historical events. We can play as one of the four available factions: Slavs, Germanic peoples, Vikings, and Anglo-Saxons. In terms of gameplay, Ancestors Legacy focuses on large-scale battles. Figuring out good tactics that includes the layout of the land and skillfully flanking our enemy are the key elements that will lead us to victory. In addition to open-field battles, we can also besiege our enemies' cities and villages. We will also have to pay some attention to the economic side of our conquest (i.e. gathering materials and resources, upgrading and improving our headquarters). What makes Ancestors Legacy stand out among the similar games is the low entry threshold – both newcomers and experienced players will feel like home when playing the game.
Mordhau
Action
July 12, 2023
An action game developed by the independent developer Team Mordhau. The players assume the role of medieval knights and take part in online duels to the death. The characteristic feature of Mordhau is incredibly elaborate combat system that lets us execute precise strikes, slow down and feint attacks. Moreover, we can personalize our armor and weapons to our liking. What’s interesting, the armor our avatar wears affects his mobility — for example, a light armor provides less protection from damage but lets us perform fast dodges. The production was designed solely with multiplayer mode in mind and is powered by Unreal Engine 4 which provides high-quality graphics.
For Honor
Action
February 14, 2017
A third-person action game in a quasi-historical setting, with a focus on online competition. The production was developed by the experienced studio Ubisoft Montreal, whose portfolio includes several cult series, including Far Cry and Assassin's Creed. In the game, three factions are pitted against each other: The Chosen, The Legions, and The Warborn, modeled after the Japanese samurai, European knights, and Scandinavian Vikings respectively. During the game, each party is represented by dozens of warriors, but only four of them are controlled by players and equipped with unique abilities that can turn the tide of the battle. The game puts a great emphasis on a realistic reproduction of individual warriors’ fighting styles, and skirmishes are mostly based on the ability to use melee weapons, proper tactics, and special abilities of heroes. The online mode is complemented by a story mini-campaign that serves as an introduction to the gameplay.
Battle Brothers
Strategy
January 13, 2022
A combination of a turn-based strategy and an RPG, developed by Overhype Studios. Battle Brothers takes the player to a medieval-like low-fantasy world, where they become a leader of a mercenary band. The player can have up to 12 fighters under their command, and each of them has a portrait, name and a backstory, apart from a set of features that affect their stats and capabilities on the battlefield. The game does not make use of character classes, thus the player can assign weapons bought or taken from the enemies without any restrictions. The basic weaponry includes a set of medieval tools, such as swords, spears, axes, bows or crossbows. Different kinds of weapons offer interesting special attacks - for instance, axes can break shields; maces on the other hand, can stun the enemy so they lose their next turn. On their path, both when completing assignments and exploring the world, the player encounters various enemies, fighting ordinary bandits, hostile mercenaries, forest creatures, tribes of orcs and goblins, as well as the undead and terrifying ghosts. If the player manages to survive for long enough, they are faced with one of the ending crises. Those include an invasion of orcs and goblins, a plague of the undead, and a war between the local noble families.
Besiege
Simulation
December 12, 2024
An original mix of simulation and logic game from the British developer Spiderling, which lets players construct inventive siege weapons that will help them annihilate enemy troops and fortifications. The game puts you up against various challenges, starting with crushing ordinary civil buildings, to besieging heavily fortified strongholds defended by brave knights. In order to succeed you have to use the available parts to create a unique siege weapon able to crush your opponent’s resistance and resist enemy counter-attacks. Players’ creativeness is restrained by nothing; all it takes is a bit of imagination to go from constructing only standard medieval siege weapons, to flame throwers, tanks, simple flying machines, and anything in between. The game features full 3D graphics, and its relatively low system requirements were achieved by reducing the field of view to the nearest area.
Totally Accurate Battle Simulator
Strategy
September 5, 2023
A grotesque strategy game from the developers responsible for such curious projects as Square Brawl and Clustertruck. Totally Accurate Battle Simulator allows the players to control an army of colored humanoids. We spend our money on infantry, archers, pikemen, or siege machines, such as ballistae and catapults. Each battle begins with a planning phase where we can set the formation and tactics employed by our forces, and then watch the results of these decisions in a three-dimensional environment. The physics engine implemented in the game is one of its highlights – the troops’ animations and ragdoll effects, as well as projectile trajectories and impacts are calculated on the fly, creating spectacular, or more often, funny situations. Totally Accurate Battle Simulator is characterized by its sterile visuals – angular character models and objects are coated with uniform, very simple textures, which emphasizes the absurdity of the game.
Bladestorm: Nightmare
Strategy
January 29, 2015
An enhanced remake of the console strategy game titled Bladestorm: The Hundred Years’ War, initially released in 2007 on 7th generation consoles. The game, once again developed by Omega Force, takes the players to the period of the Hundred Years’ War that was waged in medieval Europe between England and France. The player gets to assume the role of a mercenary fighting for one of the aforementioned countries. In terms of mechanics, the game is a combination of an epic strategy game somewhat resembling several installments of the Total War series, with a hack-and-slash mechanics typical of consoles titles. The game emphasizes planning consecutive skirmishes as well as managing one’s forces in battle. At any moment during the game, one can enter the battlefield in person and fight for their faction with their own fair hands. In comparison to its original release, Bladestorm: Nightmare features an entirely new story campaign, as well as many fantasy elements that allow the player to face not only enemy knights but also fantastical creatures such as goblins and dragons.
