Bladestorm: Nightmare Description
Bladestorm: Nightmare for PS4, PC and etc. is an enhanced remake of the 2007’s Bladestorm: The Hundred Years’ War, which is an epic strategy game with slasher elements. The game has been developed by Omega Force – a studio also responsible for creating the original release as well as other series such as Dynasty Warriors, Samurai Warriors, and Warriors Orochi.
Plot
The action of the game yet again takes players to the period of The Hundred Years’ War that was waged between England and France in 1337-1453. A player gets to assume the role of a mercenary fighting for one of the aforementioned countries and participating in the most important battles of this long conflict. Unlike previous games developed by Omega Force, which are typical slicer games, Bladestorm: Nightmare is a strategy game, in which one has to carefully plan the skirmishes to come and command their armies during each battle. At any moment during the game, one can enter the battlefield and fight for their faction.
Mechanics
In general, the PS4, PC and etc. release of Bladestorm: Nightmare follows the mechanics model known from its original release, in which a player wages real-time battles resembling those from the Total War series; however, there is also the option to enter the battlefield and experience the dynamic action typical for games such as the aforementioned Dynasty Warriors and Samurai Warriors. In each battle, there are various types of units – from poorly equipped peasant divisions to heavy cavalry. The scale of the battles is huge, and more than once, a player can see thousands of units simultaneously on his screen. As the game progresses, the limited list of commanders is expanded by legendary war chiefs, who are based on factual people who fought in The Hundred Years’ War.
Technical aspects
The PS4, PC and etc. release of Bladestorm: Nightmare features a completely new story campaign set in the medieval Europe. Moreover, the game introduces fantasy elements, which allow a player to face not only the enemy knights but also fantastical creatures such as goblins and dragons. The developers have improved the character creation process and have implemented a number of minor fixes to the game’s mechanics. Also, the visuals have been enhanced to meet the 8th generation consoles’ standards. The single player campaign is well complemented with a full-fledged online multiplayer mode.
