League of Legends Video Game Series
A series created by a MOBA-type production titled League of Legendsas well as a number of its spin-offs. Responsible for the development of the brand is the studio Riot Games, acting as publisher of all productions under this banner, as well as overseeing the work on side-segments of the series, most often created by external teams.
The series was initiated in 2009, when a MOBA-type production was released under the title League of Legends. The title tells the story of the title "league of legends". In the event of conflicts between nations inhabiting the land of Runeterra, its members are matched in teams and clash in special closed arenas. The results of these duels determine the content of the agreements made by the conflicting countries. In the course of the game, we choose one of the characters and end up in the arena to take part in a team battle with the participation of other players and AI-controlled creatures.
The production quickly gained enormous popularity, becoming one of the forerunners of the entire genre. In 2019, i.e. 10 years after its release, the average number of players logging on the servers every day was about 8 million, while the total number of accounts - 350 million, making the League of Legends the most popular game on the PC. E-sports tournaments are also regularly held.
The brand is complemented by a number of spin-offs. For several months, at the turn of 2009-2010, there was a mobile League of Legends: Turret Defense, released on iOS. A real offensive of side projects set in the universe of the League of Legends began, however, in 2020. The first of these was the card game Legends of Runeterra, released for PC and mobile devices. This was followed by a console-mobile conversion of the League of Legends, titled League of Legends: Wild Rift. In 2021, the games went on sale Ruined King: A League of Legends Story (RPG created by the Airship Syndicate team) and Hextech Mayhem: A League of Legends Story (a rhythmic auto runner from Choice Provisions). The year 2023, meanwhile, brought the debuts of the games The Mageseeker: A League of Legends Story (an action RPG from Digital Sun Games studio), Convergence: A League of Legends Story (a platformer developed by Double Stallion Games) and Song of Nunu: A League of Legends Story (an action adventure game signed by Tequila Works). Another side project set in this universe was an RPG from Lazy Bear Games, titled Bandle Tale: A League of Legends Story.
It is worth noting that a kind of supplement to the history of the world of Runeterra and the heroes available in the game are the comic books dedicated to them available on the official website of the brand League of Legends.
