Gamers love older games and favor PCs over consoles. More than 900 million people already play on rigs
Research by the Newzoo agency shows that PC gamers spend most of their time playing old games.

The Game Developers Conference took place yesterday in San Francisco. One of the presentations was conducted by Ben Porter, the head of the analytical agency Newzoo. He revealed interesting information about the current condition of the PC gaming market.
- The conclusion from Newzoo's research is clear - PC gamers mainly play older games.
- In 2024, 92% of the time spent by PC gamers was on games that were at least two years old.
- Furthermore, really old titles dominate the list. Last year, up to 67% of the time spent by PC gamers playing was on games that were at least 6 years old.
In these 67%, the following entires enjoyed the greatest popularity:
# | Game | Involvement in the time PC players dedicated to playing in 2024 |
1. | CS: GO / CS 2* | 7,1% |
2. | League of Legends | 6,4% |
3. | Roblox | 6,2% |
4. | Dota 2 | 5,8% |
5. | Fortnite | 5,4% |
- CS2 was released last year, but the game was replaced by CS:GO, so Newzoo counts both titles as one.
Steam users are more prone to play new games. Last year, they dedicated 15% of their gaming time to titles released in 2024.
On a more positive note - the PC games market is steadily growing. In 2023, there were 873.5 million PC gamers worldwide. By 2024, this number had increased to 907 million. This makes PCs a much more popular gaming platform than consoles, which were used by 653.1 million people last year.
The studies used detailed surveys completed by 73,000 players, as well as data from the analysis of over 10,000 games.
