Layers of Fear

Layers of Fear is a first-person psychedelic horror adventure game. It was developed by the Polish studio Bloober Team, just like its two predecessors - Layers of Fear and Layers of Fear 2. Like with the first game, they've collaborated with another Polish developer, Anshar Studios (the creators of Gamedec, Detached and Heavy Fire: Red Shadow).

Plot

Layers of Fear is a remake of sorts of the two first installments and the Inheritance DLC, though it may be more accurate to say it's a reinterpretation of their stories. The already-known plots are bound together by a completely new episode revolving around a new protagonist - a writer. The narration once again focuses on artists tormented by fate, a painter and an actor, slowly losing their minds to their passion and dedication to art.

Mechanics

The remake doesn't significantly innovate the gameplay. Once again, it revolves around exploring dark corridors and discovering their secrets by interacting with various objects. There's no combat and no weapons to wield. The playable characters can still defend themselves though, as shining a lamp or a flashlight can temporarily neutralize enemies.

Technical aspects

Layers of Fear runs on the modern Unreal Engine 5. This let the developers implement ray tracing, HDR imaging, 4K resolution and the Lumen system, ensuring an engaging and moving gameplay experience.
