Warhammer Age of Sigmar: Realms of Ruin Description
Warhammer Age of Sigmar: Realms of Ruin is an RTS based on the license of Warhammer Age of Sigmar, a tabletop miniature wargame from 2015 and the successor to the iconic Warhammer Fantasy Battle. It was developed by Frontier Developments, veterans of the strategy genre (known for games such as Jurassic World Evolution, Planet Zoo and Planet Coaster) with input and co-operation from Games Workshop, the owners of the franchise.
Plot
The story of Warhammer Age of Sigmar: Realms of Ruin was overseen by Gavin Thorpe, an acclaimed author of many Warhammer books. The game is set in a grimdark fantasy world, in the land of Ghur. Four factions fight for control over the area, including Stormcast Eternals and Orruk Kruleboyz. The player must control one of these factions and lead it to victory.
Mechanics
Warhammer Age of Sigmar: Realms of Ruin makes use of the top-down perspective. After choosing our faction, the time comes for bloody conquest. Gameplay revolves around battles, having us lead armies inspired by the original game's Warscrolls. We can field infantry, battle mages, heroes, giant monsters and aerial units; each unit type has their own unique strengths and weaknesses.
To ensure victory we must secure Arcane Conduits that grant access to valuable resources. These can be used to recruit more troops and upgrade already owned ones. There's also a tech tree, with which we can develop our squads and choose specializations for them. This gradually increases our army's combat potential and our chances of victory.
Game modes
Warhammer Age of Sigmar: Realms of Ruin features an extensive story campaign consisting of a series of diverse missions. The game also supports multiplayer (and cross-platform), letting us face other players in combat; it offers a variety of casual and ranked modes.
Technical aspects
Warhammer Age of Sigmar: Realms of Ruin boasts high-quality visuals. The detailed units may be especially appealing, as they faithfully recreate the miniatures from the original tabletop game.
