VideoGamer: 10 / 10 by Finlay Cattanach
Armored Core 6 Fires of Rubicon is a masterful return to form for the series that incorporates the modern design philosophies of From Software. It’s a dystopian world with a brutally gorgeous aesthetic and refined gameplay elevated by exceptional boss battles. Any fan of the series new or old will find something to love.
Metro GameCentral: 9 / 10
Probably the best giant robot game ever made and an excellent companion piece to the likes of Dark Souls and Elden Ring, that matches both games in terms of spectacle and customisation.
GamesBeat: 4.5 / 5 by Mike Minotti
No, it’s no Dark Souls with mechs, but Armored Core VI carves out its own identity.
The main pros of the game
- Gameplay and Combat Mechanics: The combat is described as fluid, fast-paced, and engaging, with a strong emphasis on customization and strategy. Players appreciate the variety of weapons and parts available for building their mechs, allowing for different play styles.
- Replayability: The game offers significant replay value with multiple endings and the need to complete the game several times to unlock all content. Many players enjoy revisiting missions with new builds.
- Visuals and Design: The graphics and design of the mechs, environments, and bosses are highly praised, with many noting the impressive art direction and atmospheric sound design.
- Challenge Level: The game is noted for its challenging boss fights, which provide a sense of satisfaction upon victory. The difficulty is seen as a hallmark of FromSoftware games, appealing to fans of the genre.
The main cons of the game

- Difficulty Spikes: Certain boss fights are perceived as unfairly difficult, leading to a need for specific builds to succeed, which can limit the enjoyment of the customization aspect.
- Story and Character Depth: While the story is generally appreciated, some players found it lacking in depth and coherence, feeling that character development and narrative choices were underwhelming.
- Technical Issues: There are mentions of performance issues, particularly on PC, including crashes and problems with the EasyAntiCheat system.

Armored Core VI: Fires of Rubicon Description
Armored Core VI: Fires of Rubicon is the next installment in a series originating from 1997, developed by FromSoftware , also known for Elden Ring, Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, Bloodborne and the Dark Souls series. Unlike their other games, AC6 features an industrial sci-fi setting, starring mecha pilots.
Plot
The game is set in the distant future, its plot revolving around a mysterious substance discovered on the planet Rubicon 3. It was thought to potentially revolutionize energy and communications, letting humanity make massive technological progress. Instead, it caused a disaster and engulfed the entire star system in flames.
Fifty years later, the substance appears on Rubicon 3 once again. The previous catastrophe was not enough to discourage humans hungry for profit, and so, corporations and resistance groups arrive to the planet, fighting for the resource.
We play as a mercenary wrapped up in the middle of the conflict for control over the globe.
Game mechanics
The game expands upon the ideas from previous installments of the series. Armored Core VI: Fires of Rubicon is a third-person shooter, in which we control a mecha. Our machines differ from those known from such games as MechWarrior - AC mechas are lightning fast, can slide, jump and even fly short distances. Players can prepare to each mission by customizing their mecha depending on the objective. Armored Core is famous for its deep mecha customization, and AC6 is no exception: we'll get to change our armor, weapons mounted on each arm, different kinds of legs affecting our mobility and stability.
Preparing our machine is crucial, as the stages in Armored Core 6 are large and vertical, often pitting us against many enemies at once, firing from above, from below and from the sides. The combat is extremely fast-paced and challenging, as expected from a FromSoftware game. It's worth noting, however, that Armored Core has its own identity and is no typical soulslike.
Multiplayer
Aside from the story campaign, the game features PvP multiplayer. The battles are 1v1 or 3v3, each pilot having just one life and no way to heal - eliminations are permanent, and dead players can no longer support their teammates.
