Doom (1993)

A first-person shooter set in a science fiction realm, created by id Software studio, previously known mainly for the arcade series Commander Keen and the groundbreaking Wolfenstein 3D. Action of Doom takes place in the near future, and players play the part of a cosmic Marine who, for insubordination, is sent to UAC corporation's secret research facility on Mars. When, in the fallout of an interdimensional gate experiment, the base gets overrun by bloodthirsty monsters from outer space, we have to provide reconnaissance and, of course, eliminate all potential threat. In each of nearly 30 levels of the game the player's task is to find an exit, the keys to open it, and to eliminate all encountered monsters using a wide arsenal of both classic and futuristic weapons. The game features a large dose of brutality, claustrophobic atmosphere, and three-dimensional graphic design.

A sequel to the Valve Software's best-selling game that set new standards for the FPS genre back in 1998. Half-Life 2 is set several years after the events of the first game. Once again, the player assumes the role of Gordon Freeman – a doctor of physics who used to work in Black Mesa Labs, where an unfortunate incident opened a portal for alien life forms to invade the Earth. This time, the story takes us into a fictional City 17 and its immediate vicinity. The protagonist now works for a secret government organization. His mission is to repel the invaders from another dimension, in which he is aided by Alyx Vance – a young women fighting as a part of human resistance. The sequel introduces a technological revolution, employing the Valve’s proprietary game engine called Source. Its main advantage is excellent physics simulation, letting players destroy almost any element of environment and use various objects as covers or even weapons.
Doom II: Hell on Earth

A continuation of the 1993's bestselling FPP shooter, once again developed by the experienced creators from id Software. Action takes place after events of the first part, when our hero, after having defeated alien hosts on Mars, returns home with an intention of ending his military career. It soon becomes clear, however, that the legions of hell were not completely defeated as they reach the Earth and launch a successful invasion. The task of a group of survivors (led by the player) is to hijack an alien spacecraft, allowing them to escape their home world in search of a new, better home. Doom II: Hell on Earth features all the key elements of its classic predecessor and introduces some novelties, such as brand new weapons and greatly expanded bestiary. With engine tweaks and more detailed textures, the game's visuals are noticeably better than in the original.

Fortnite: Battle Royale is a free-to-play multiplayer action game developed by Epic Games. The game is based on the battle royale formula and is similar to e.g. PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds. A hundred players are transported onto an island with almost nothing in their inventory. The player is tasked with finding or looting weapons, traps, and other pieces of gear. The game offers the players much leeway - one can run around and shoot as much as they like, nonetheless, one can also assume the stealthy approach, hide in an appropriate spot and eliminate the foes with a sniper rifle. Additionally, one can acquire more resources from buildings, trees, etc. and use them to construct numerous objects such as stairs, covers, and bridges. The only objective the player is tasked with is staying alive until the end of a match. This task is even more difficult due to the fact that the battlefield shrinks continuously. The game is based on Unreal Engine technology, also used in the production processes of such games as Final Fantasy VII Remake and Tekken 7.

The first expansion to Half-Life 2. Its action takes place directly after the events shown in the predecessor and expands the storyline with new plots. Once more the player becomes the main protagonist of the series: Gordon Freeman, accompanied, once again, by Alyx Vance. The two characters are tasked with escaping from an alien citadel – the place where the basic version of the game ended. During the game, the player meets many characters known from previous installments of the series and has to face not only the soldiers of the Combine, but new types of enemies as well. As for the game mechanics, the game is filled with all the elements thanks to which Half-Life 2 was successful – including a large dose of action, hard puzzles, and narrative cutscenes. The Source Engine was improved with a set of new effects that improved the game's visuals. In contrast to the original game, the expansion is focused mostly on single player experience.

A remastered edition of the third installment in a series of classic first-person shooters developed by id Software. This edition was created for both PCs and the seventh generation of consoles, on the occasion of the tenth anniversary of the original game's release. The player takes on the role of a commando sent to a secret research facility located on Mars in order to close an interdimensional portal opened as a result of an accident. The bad news is that various infernal beasts have already managed to make their way through that portal. BFG Edition offers all the contents of the original game, the Resurrection of Evil expansion and a completely new episode consisting of seven levels and called The Lost Mission. Doom 3: BFG Edition features improved visuals with upgraded texture quality and supports both the stereoscopic 3D and 5.1 surround sound technologies. Having console players in mind, the creators rebuilt both the controls and the system of checkpoints. Additionally, Doom 3: BFG Edition contains both the 1993's Doom and 1994's Doom II.

The Sun is a post-apocalyptic game by Ukrainian studio EGProject, blending RPG mechanics with FPS elements. The story takes place several hundred years in the future, on Earth, which has been destroyed by disastrous beams of solar energy and radiation. You play as person raised by former shelter dwellers, who decided to rebuild the human civilization. The game utilizes the first person's view and features an open world. You explore locations, talk to NPCs, gather items, and complete quests, including long, main ones and many shorter, optional tasks. The combat mechanics strongly resemble that of FPS games, but they are also affected by your stats, which can be leveled up using experience points. The exploration of the desert is made more interesting by the presence of mutants and anomalies, which are not bound by the laws of physics.

A combination of a first-person shooter, adventure game and 3D platformer inspired by Metroid, Ratchet & Clank and the Turok series. In Morphite, we play as a young woman called Myrah, who embarks on a journey through space. During her adventure the players can visit many randomly generated planets using a a space ship. When we are on the planets' surfaces we can, e.g. jump on platforms, drive various vehicles, solve environmental puzzles, find resources and fight with enemies. Myrah possesses many useful tools, a diverse range of weapons and a special scanner which is used for finding weapons, as well as ship and suit upgrades. When we are in space we also need to face aggressive enemies. Morphite's graphics are "angular" and the game uses a more cartoonish visual style.

A spin-off of the Call of Duty franchise for mobile devices, developed by Ideaworks Game Studio, the creators of Call of Duty: World at War Zombies. Just like in that production, the gameplay of Call of Duty: Black of Zombies is focused on defense against the oncoming hordes of the living dead. The game features the characters and maps from one of the main installments in the series, Call of Duty: Black Ops. You can play as one of several soldiers, including Tank Dempsey, Nikolai Belinski, Takeo Masaki and Edward Richtofen, as well as the characters from the secret Dead Ops Arcade mode. The soldiers fight with a wide array of firearms, such as the ray gun, the Monkey Bomb and the SPAS-12 shotgun. One online match can involve up to four players, who take on the roles of their chosen soldiers and team up to defeat the hostile zombies. Call of Duty: Black Ops features a voice chat option to make the communication between the players easier, and a system of microtransactions, which allows the players to purchase equipment and quick revive packs.

The title was developed by the creators of the main entries of the PayDay franchise – Overkill Software. PayDay: Crime War focuses on multiplayer – the game’s mainstay is team PvP. One team assumes the role of criminals and the other team assumes the role of a SWAT team. The objective of the former is to perform a robbery while the law enforcers are trying to prevent them from succeeding. The game takes place in varied locations. A mobile first-person perspective shooter based on the movie Suicide Squad which, in turn, was based on the popular comic series Suicide Squad. The story of the game is loosely based on the plot of the movie. However, it is just an excuse for the actual gameplay. During the game the player assumes the role of one of the members of the titular Suicide Squad, a secret task force consisting of supervillains forced into submission. The action is shown from first-person perspective and the gameplay focuses on eliminating hordes of monsters swarming through the city of Midway. Three playable characters are available in Suicide Squad: Special Ops - Deadshot, Diablo and Harley Quinn. Each one of them has unique attacks and abilities that can be activated after filling a special meter. No matter which character you choose, two remaining ones are controlled by artificial intelligence.
