Doom II: Hell on Earth for PC and X360 is a direct sequel to the game that changed the face of shooters forever. Even more weapons, even more monsters, even more unfettered carnage...

Story

According to all indications, and mostly to the hammering you unleashed on the aliens who invaded UAC (Union Aerospace Corporation) laboratories on Mars, your mission was successfully completed. Tired, but content with the final outcome of the battle you turned your steps to the only operational spacecraft that could take you home. No one objected when you decided to quit the military once and for all, no one dared to utter a word of disapproval on your departure. After all, you were the sole survivor...

But nothing lasts forever, and your victory turned out to be a particularly short-lived one. After arriving back on Earth you discover that the demons have somehow beaten you to it; they are currently in the middle of slaughtering billions of people and well on their way to conquer the entire planet. The few who came out unscathed (at least for now) from this hecatomb have decided to flee. For this purpose they developed a plan aimed at hijacking a spacecraft. If they manage to secure a means transport, what's left of humanity could get away from this burning world and find a new, better home somewhere else. The only thing standing in their way were the aliens. Not only were they in possession of all operational starships, but they also surrounded the space port with a force field that prevented any ship from taking off without permission.

Along with surviving companions you decided to fight. In desperation, you attacked the spaceport, hoping that at least some, small number of your comrades will get away safety. Unfortunately, your companions, untrained as they were, have fallen one by one, leaving you the last man standing - the sole representative of humanity, who must exterminate all aliens in order to survive...

Gameplay

Doom II: Hell on Earth for PC and X360 not only features all of the famous elements from the excellent prequel but also introduces some novelties. The first new thing is an extra weapon in the game's already extensive arsenal. Super Shotgun, the gun in question, works at short range, but has such a large spread that it can take down several enemies at once. Apart from that, the authors have supplemented the bestiary by adding some new monsters from hell. There are few of them but they can create a memorable impression, especially the Revenant – a skeleton attacking with missiles and Arch-Vile – the perfect beast able to resurrect its dead kinsmen. Obviously, there are also new, fantastic levels, this time not split into episodes. In whole, Doom II: Hell on Earth for PC and X360 contains thirty-two stages, including secret levels, with their implementation reminiscent of Wolfenstein 3D, id Software's previous work.

Technology

The game's audiovisual layer is no different from its predecessor – both graphics and music have been kept in the same atmosphere. Of course, it would not do without new, updated textures and music tracks that sweeten the journey through subsequent levels. The game engine lived to see small modifications, allowing the game to work a little faster. To sum up, Doom II: Hell on Earth for PC and X360 is even better than its legendary predecessor. It retains all advantages of the original, enriching the game with some new elements. A must have for FPS lovers.
