An open-world TPP action adventure game set during the Wild West period. In Red Dead Redemption we play as John Marston, forced by the government agents to go after the members of Dutch van der Linde's gang. The game offers plenty of side activities, like hunting or gambling.
Red Dead Redemption is an action adventure game with a western setting. Its previous part, Red Dead Revolver, was released in 2004 for Xbox and PlayStation 2. This installment of the series is not a continuation in any way, but a separate story set in a completely different period. The game was created by Rockstar studio, which we associate primarily with the Grand Theft Auto series.
In 2018 the game also received an extremely warmly received prequel, titled Red Dead Redemption 2. For a long time, RDR was only available on seventh-generation consoles. It was not until a dozen or so years after its premiere that ports to newer consoles and PC appeared. Importantly, on the new platforms, the game was released in a package with the add-on Red Dead Redemption: Undead Nightmare, maintained in a slightly comedic horror atmosphere.
We play the role of a former gang member, John Marston, who must find his place in the rapidly changing world of the Wild West entering the 20th century. On the prairie, government representatives are appearing more frequently, followed by the first signs of industrialization. The time of freedom and lawlessness is passing irrevocably. John Marston tries to lead an honest life, but his past won't let him forget. Government agents make him an offer he can't refuse: if John ever wants to see his wife Abigail and son Jack again, he will have to track down and kill his former companions from the infamous Dutch van der Linde gang.
The creators have prepared a truly epic story set in the classic western convention. The whole story tells about the end of the extraordinary era of the Wild West and the last days of great gunslingers.
During the game we learn the nuances of a complex plot, full of side stories and additional quests. Many missions are based on characteristic scenes from cult Wild West movies, so we often take part in spectacular duels or chases after a speeding stagecoach. Individual missions are available in various regions of the vast, open world, offering a high degree of freedom. We can visit many smaller, characteristic towns, vast areas of prairie full of wild nature and animals, and mountain ranges with narrow passes.
During the game we often have to use revolvers attached to our belts - this world is full of various dangers, including other people. However, we don't have to shoot at every person we encounter right away. The virtual Wild West is inhabited by a multitude of charismatic individuals with whom it's worth exchanging a few words. Apart from that, we can deal with more mundane things, like hunting or gambling.
The PC version of Red Dead Redemption supports HDR10 technology, Nvidia DLSS 3.7 and AMD FSR 3.0, as well as Nvidia DLSS Frame Generation. It supports 4K resolution and a refresh rate of 144 Hz. It can also be played on ultrawide monitors (with screen ratios of 21:9 and 32:9).

Released in retail distribution, Red Dead Redemption: Undead Nightmare is a standalone bundle of expansion packs to a best-selling action game Red Dead Redemption. As the title suggests, it combines the distinctive Western setting with the evergreen theme of zombie apocalypse. As the protagonist of the base game, John Marston, you travel across the Wild West in search of the cure for a fast-spreading zombie infestation. The story campaign offers a series of new missions and varied side quests. While completing the new tasks, you get to use a new type of shotgun: Blunderbuss. Apart from the main feature, which is Undead Nightmare Pack, released previously as a separate expansion, the bundle includes three smaller DLCs that introduce new co-op missions, maps and playable characters for multiplayer, extra weapons, gang hideouts, hunting zones, as well as several mini-games and new online modes.

In terms of price, I do feel it is worth it; but given how much time has passed, should be something slightly cheaper despite how much work has been put into this. Red Dead Redemption is a fantastic spaghetti western in video game form that still has, and is only surpassed by the equally fantastic 2018’s Red Dead Redemption 2. In the 14 years of its release, this remains a blueprint of incredible open-world design from its characters, missions, and things to do. This is not a game of just nostalgia, but endurance over time. Red Dead Redemption is still a masterpiece, and can now finally be enjoyed to the fullest on PC.
