The action of the series takes place in the brutal world of the Wild West, where both opportunities to earn money and numerous dangers await daring adventurers. As the protagonists are usually harsh adventurers, we often find ourselves combining one with the other and, through shootouts, skirmishes and duels, earning our daily bread and new knock-offs. The heroes' adventures allow us to visit a variety of locations characteristic of Western cinema: towns and ranches lost among the wilderness, railroads attacked by bandits, rocky canyons providing hiding places for outlaws, etc.

The main character of the first part is the titular Red, the son of a gold prospector and an Indian woman. One day the protagonist's father returns home with great news: he and his business partner have found a promising ore deposit. However, the joyful atmosphere ends very quickly, because the house of the protagonists is attacked by bandits. Red's parents are killed, and the boy is forced to flee. He begins a career as a bounty hunter, tracking down and eliminating thugs for money. Playing the subsequent stages, we have the opportunity to impersonate not only the titular Red, but also various side characters: an English gunfighter, a warrior ranch owner and even an army general. While performing tasks, we use all kinds of revolvers, rifles, shotguns, stationary cannons, as well as knives and exploding sticks of dynamite. We can upgrade weapons, as well as buy and acquire new types. A special feature of the gameplay is the Dead Eye mode, which, when activated, slows down time and allows precise marking of targets for firing. The fun is complemented by duels realized in the form of challenging mini-games. Ordinary shootouts retain tactical depth thanks to a cover system - characters can hide from gunfire behind environmental elements.

Red Dead Redemption refreshed the gameplay model of the first part, enriching it with a completely open world and a brand new storyline. This time, players take on the role of John Marston, a former criminal who wants to leave his adventurous past behind and devote himself to his family. Unfortunately, government agents kidnap his loved ones and use blackmail to force him to step into the shoes of a bounty hunter. The former bandit is forced to pursue his former comrades. The vast world of RDR offers a plethora of atmospheric side quests: riding horses, hunting and skinning animals, patrolling locations and killing or capturing bandits, treasure hunting, arm wrestling, gambling and much more.

Action Red Dead Redemption 2 takes place several years before the events of the previous installment. The main protagonist of the production is Arthur Morgan, who, as Dutch van der Linde's right-hand man, must fight the problems plaguing their gang after a failed robbery in the city of Blackwater. The game puts at our disposal a huge open world, consisting of mountains, prairies, rivers, forests and bustling cities. Mechanics from the first installment have been streamlined, and a reputation system has been added, affecting our relationships with gang members and choices that determine the course of the story. RDR 2 became famous for its extraordinary attention to detail - even for a long time after its release, players discovered various tidbits and details related to the story or game mechanics in the production.
