INFORMATION
- Genre: action RPG
- What's good beyond the plot: great side quests set in a perfectly designed world
We tried, considered and pondered, but in vain – there's no way to shoehorn Cyberpunk 2077 into this article, no matter what we do. Fortunately we have a reserve player. Is The Witcher 3 the best? Yes, when it comes to smaller quests and threads that can hide morally ambiguous narrative gems.
Poland's best action RPG so far takes us to the fantasy world created by fantasy author Andrzej Sapkowski, a universe haunted by wars and intrigues, while villages and highways are plagued by numerous monsters. The latter's elimination is the job of witchers, monster hunters traveling from village to town and to the next village in search of well-paid jobs. One of them is Geralt, a master in his trade who, during his journey, not only kills monsters, but also tries to track down his long-lost foster daughter Ciri.
Wild Hunt executes the main storyline of searching for Ciri well, but it was not what made game's story so memorable. It's the side stories that made that possible, especially the one about the tragedy of the Bloody Baron and his family – the story of an evil man whose actions have destroyed his family, was sold to us in such a way that despite his cruel actions we begin to feel sorry for the man and want to help him. The members of CD Projekt RED depicted many shades of grey in the fantasy world they have created in the games, including nuances where they could, and, like Sapkowski, delivered them through great dialogues.
