Long ago in a galaxy far, far away... we had great games set in the universe of Star Wars. And the one among them that could boast a particularly high midi-chlorian count was BioWare's Knights of the Old Republic, an RPG title that takes us from the well-known age of Rebels and Empire to the distant past, where the Sith and Jedi had sufficient numbers to field galactic armies and fought large, open conflicts.
In KotOR's world, the Republic and the Jedi are on the brink of annihilation, pushed to the defensive by the Sith led by Darth Revan, a former Knight of the Jedi Order who has fallen to the dark side and now leads it to victory. Revan, however, is betrayed by his disciple Darth Malak, who takes control of the fleets and continues his master's work of destruction on his own terms. This event becomes the beginning of a series of events that change the balance of forces in the universe
The game was a player dream come true, enabling the gamers not only to become a Jedi or a Sith, but to lead the character according to their own vision, independently deciding which areas of the Force they would be proficient in and which side they would stand on. Set in a familiar but refreshed thanks to a trip to the distant past universe, the game is considered by many to be the best of the rich world of Star Wars, with momentum and plot twists beating the movies – not just the newer ones, but even George Lucas' classics.
