The Last of Us: Part II was added to the list as part of an update, unrelated to the main vote.
INFORMATION
- Genre: action game
- What's good beyond the plot: an incredibly designed post-apocalyptic world
How do you define a good story? I would say it's all about emotion. If the story makes you feel something, it is good. And there's a lot to be said about The Last of Us, but we certainly won't accuse it of leaving us indifferent.
Sometimes young writers are advised not to kill off the characters until we get used to them. Otherwise, the effect will be bland. We got used to the character killed off in the second game across the entire first installment and indeed the effect of this one kill turned out to be powerful. Especially considering the brutal ferocity of the scene. But that's what this game is about – violence.
Post-apocalyptic worlds tend to be like this, brutal to the point of pain, because they show that people stripped of civilization become savage, cruel and frighteningly dangerous in a very primal way. Only that the devs of The Last of Us not only showed it very suggestively, but also managed to craw us through a story about a spiral of violence, about atavistic revenge, which leads to purification and at the end gives hope that a man who is oppressed and deprived of brakes in the form of at least a vision of punishment from the society can also remain human in the pre-apocalyptic sense of the word.
It's worth adding that The Last of Us: Part II shows the same story from two different perspectives which enabled the creators to play with the narrative pacing and put more than one climax into the game.
