Of Bird and Cage. The worst video games of 2021

Of Bird and Cage is an extremely ambitious project that was to initiate a completely new genre – an interactive musical, a kind of action adventure combined with a rhythmic game. The plot was inspired by the story of Beauty and the Beast, and the soundtrack used heavy metal songs prepared by quite a supergroup, including Ruud Jolie from Within Temptation, Rocky Gray from Evanescence, or Ron Thal from Guns N' Roses.

The great soundtrack turned out to be, unfortunately, the only bright point of this production – although the selection of songs does not always fit the story or – even worse – can make you frown. The rest of Of Bird and Cage is a textbook example of how not to make games. The graphics are ugly and sloppy, the plot touches on serious topics, not taken very seriously, the gameplay is full of lame QTE sequences and breakneck attempts to add gunfighting and driving mechanics to the whole, the roughness of which is hard to describe. The game seems to be a failed amateur experiment in which everything went wrong.
