Solitaire. Final nemesis of managers and supervisors. The destructive power with which Microsoft promotes procrastination and unproductive office workers since 1990 is today examined by secret cells of the FBI. The simple card game remains a giant hit among casual players over the decades, especially among older "gamers," as it provides not only entertainment, but is also a good way to get used to operating a computer mouse.
Considering the fact that solitaire games have been an integral part of Windows for years, and it's hard to find a PC user who hasn't had some contact with them, the figures provided by Microsoft seem downright too low. According to Aaron Marcus' book Design, User Experience, and Usability: Interactive Experience Design, the actual player base could be as high as 400 million. But in March 2019, there already was 800 million devices runing on Windows 10. We can therefore assume that over the decades of Windows existence, the number of people who have played Microsoft's solitaire is in the billions.
DOUBT
Microsoft's officially reported numbers of 35 million active players and 100 million games played per day are impressive. However, one wonders if another game bundled for free with the most popular operating system on PC would have performed even better?
