Pillars of Eternity

Release date: 2015

Genre: isometric RPG

Platforms: PC Windows, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch

What kind of game is this?

A true RPG that goes back to the roots and classics of the genre, but since the production was handled by veteran authors from Obsidian Entertainment, it had to end well. "Pillars" impressed gamers with its well-written story, gameplay mechanisms and atmosphere that brought games like Planescape: Torment to mind. For the PCs alone, sales reached over 700,000 copies, and later conversions for consoles were created. And if we are talking about Pillars of Eternity, it is worth mentioning another game from this genre, which was released a year earlier, namely Divinity: The Original Sin.

What will the Pillars of Eternity be remembered for?

Pillarsy and Divinity are primarily a classic isometric role-playing games such as the aforementioned Planescape, Icewind Dale or the immortal Baldur's Gate. It is probably due to their success that Baldur's Gate 3 is now underway. Both games were funded through a crowdfunding campaign on the Kickstarter platform, and it was the Pillars of Eternity that raised the then-record amount of nearly $ 4 million received for the development of the game.

What games have emerged thanks to the boom in classic role-playing games?

  1. Disco Elysium;
  2. Divinity: Original Sin series;
  3. Wasteland series;
  4. Pathfinder;
  5. and Baldur's Gate 3, which is yet to come.
