The Play's The Thing. 7 best quests of The Witcher 3
Table of Contents
- Quest type: main
- What I love about this quest: Breaking the usual formula, Geralt's embarrassing performance
- Score: 7/10
I love it when games play with the convention, take a u-turn in terms of mechanics at some points. This adds a lot of freshness, and is a great opportunity for developers to flaunt some creativity. In The Play's The Thing quest, Geralt has to solve an unusual situation: help Priscilla chose the title of her play. Then we get on with more typical witcher work – brawling, hiring bodyguards, and helping out a troupe of Puffins needed to advertise the show.
The quest is witty and Geralt ending up performing as himself in the play was one of the best moments of the Novigrad part of the story. We get on the stage during an interactive cut-scene, selecting Geralt's dialog options, and the choices immediately affect the course of the play. I mean, maybe the The Witcher 3 doesn't suddenly become a music game, and our choices don't affect the general conclusion of the affair, but there's another fun part to it. Before the play, we get a page with our lines and our remuneration from head of the theatre, Irina Renarde, depends on how many of them we get right.
This definite change of pace and departure from typical gameplay loop like "find, kill, claim reward" easily makes it one of the best moments of the game.
