What's Ghost of Tsushima?
It pretty much is Sony's farewell to PS4. Ghost of Tsushima is developed by Sucker Punch Productions, a team that has worked on such acclaimed series as InFamous and Sly Raccoon in the past.
What's the storyline in Ghost of Tsushima?
The game is set in 1274, on the island of Tsushima, in the middle of the Korean Strait. Following the Mongol invasion, the inhabitants of the island are mutilated and exterminated. One of the few survivors of the massacre is a samurai who decides to take revenge on the murderers of his family and friends. In order to do so, he breaks away from samurai traditions and adopts a new mode of action, becoming the vengeful spirit of Tsushima, haunting and hunting the invaders.
What's gameplay like in Ghost of Tsushima?
Sucker Punch Productions' latest work is intended to be an action adventure game set in an open world. The eponymous island will be explored on foot or on horseback. There will be bamboo grooves, small villages and mysterious temples to visit. The game will focus on exterminating subsequent opponents. The game will be heavy on stealth, since the protagonist will operate on enemy territory. There will be a range of weapons at our disposal, including katanas, bows, or smoke bombs. Interestingly, there will be no mission markers on the map. Instead, the wind direction and characteristic navigation points will guide us to the destination.
OUR EXPECTATIONS
Remember the Way of the Samurai series? I did – back in the day, its second part was one of the few games I managed to complete on a borrowed PS2. The series had a relatively successful transition to the eighth generation of consoles, but – unfortunately – after the premiere of the fourth installment in 2011, it was lost somewhere in action, and nothing really filled the gap left by it. I was therefore delighted when a few years ago it was revealed that another game from Sucker Punch would be set in medieval Japan – and inspired by a real historical event. On paper, Ghost of Tsushima has everything needed to achieve success – talented creators, a solid budget, interesting setting, great setting and fun gameplay. We will see how it works out in a couple of weeks.

This is hands-down the most important game of the summer for me, which I hope will – at least in part – compensate for the yet another delay of Cyberpunk 2077, as well as sweeten the wait for the games due to be released later this year. And even if I didn't know the creators, I wouldn't dare to assume that such a beautiful game could be a flop, and hence, I would by Ghost of Tsushima without second thoughts anyway. Because this game is really stunning in visual terms – blood splashing from enemies killed in spectacular ways makes for a great contrast with the harmony of primal nature of the island, creating a truly compelling image of the oriental warrior. But I do know Sucker Punch. GoT is the work of the same people who delivered the awesome InFamous series – I am more than certain they won't blow the setting and the story. This "assassin in Japan" or "Japanese witcher" (there's already a bunch of monikers for GoT) is going to be a very good game – in the worst case.
