The last secret of Shadow of the Colossus

The last secret we'll discuss is a remarkable story that shows that seemingly crazy theories can eventually be confirmed, even if it must take a dozen years and an official remake. We're talking about the "final secret" of Shadow of the Colossus. This whole story is so long and convoluted that we must offer an abridged version.

It's common knowledge among PlayStation users that a lot of content was cut from SotC. Originally, the game was to include as many as 48 colossi, but due to problems with their creation and implementation, Fumito Ueda decided to limit the number to sixteen. In the meantime, after the game's release, a group of enthusiasts began to scour the world, using glitches and, later on, cheats to find the remains of the deleted ones (or at least some clues concerning them). When, after many years, it seemed that the game no longer held any mystery, the so-called "last secret" surfaced – four signs that, when laid over the map of the world, supposedly marked the location of "something," according to the players. No one knew what that was, no one had any idea how to open the mysterious door in the location where we fought the eleventh colossus, and behind which the point indicated by the signs was supposed to be located.

Years went by, and there were lots of theories about what might be hidden in that place. The entire map was scoured, every hypothesis tested, every potential trace double-checked, but to no avail. The blogger Nomad, known for uncovering many Shadow of the Colossus secrets, was also involved. Why mention him? He's important to the ending of the story.

When Shadow of the Colossus remake was released, Bluepoint studio placed mysterious coins scattered throughout the entire game. Finding them was extremely difficult, but we all know how persistent and inquisitive players can be. They initially came upon the coins by accident, but eventually, someone attentively watched the end credits, and noticed a thank you note for "Nomad and 79 Steps to Enlightenment." For those involved in the search for the last secret, it was a revelation. Bluepoint repeatedly admitted they used the materials collected by Nomad, so his name, along with the number 79, were no coincidence.

The remake actually included 79 coins (or relics), after collecting which the player gained access to the "last secret" of Shadow of the Colossus. This secret was a mysterious room hidden behind gates that opened only after collecting artifacts.

And that would be all we've prepared. Or perhaps you've got some of your own, noteworthy examples?
