Another old game that has been hiding a secret for over a dozen years is Blood Omen: Legacy of Kain. Over a decade ago, one of the users of the now-deactivated official Eidos forums bragged about making his discovery while creating a fan remake of the game (only the NeoGAF forum entry survived to this day). In one of the many villages located in Blood Omen, there was an undiscovered back entrance to an inn – hidden for fourteen years. After using it, we found ourselves in a portal that took Cain to a brand-new location – a corsair ship.
On it, we were attacked by enemies armed with pirate sabers. Interestingly, it was possible to go ashore and explore nearby areas, with some NPCs to talk to. Back on the bridge, another teleport was waiting to take you to a distant future where the ship was already a wreck.
The secret turned out to be so surprising that the brand-new source code of Blood Omen: Legacy of Kain, along with the rest of the series, was thoroughly examined in order to uncover all the secrets it hid. And yet it took more than 14 years for someone to come up with the idea of entering a certain pub from the back.
Final Fantasy IX – "Nero's Family" quest revealed after over a decade
Final Fantasy IX debuted in 2000 as the last installment of the series to hit the first PlayStation. "Nine" wasn't as popular as previous games in the series, but was a nod to die-hard fans. It also became famous for many, rather quickly discovered secrets. Except for one that waited more than 13 years for the western community to learn of its existence. In this case, it's amusing because the Japanese quest "Nero's Family" was known since the Ultimania book was published, dedicated to that part of the series.
So why didn't most players know about this secret task? First, the English-language guide is famous for its terrible translation and many errors. Second, few people have figured out that the insignificant scene on the fourth disc in the Tantalus hideout was the beginning of a quest. And yet. After completing simple, but repetitive steps, we were rewarded with a Protect Ring.
Interestingly, you could start the quest again after completing it, but it quickly started missing the story events that activated the progress in "Nero's Family". As a result, we were unable to complete this quest again.
