Doom II – 100% without cheats. The most obscure secrets in video games

Table of Contents

Almost 25 years. That's how long it took to discover the secret way to complete the Industrial Zone level in Doom II without using cheats. The fourth secret on this map was previously reachable i.a. by using the noclip code, among other things. For years, it seemed that there was no other way.

However, nothing is impossible for Doom veterans. Player named Zero Master made some history with his unique feat. He discovered that the secret teleport to the secret room only activates when the player is pushed against it by a Pain Elemental opponent. The achievement was noticed by John Romero himself, who congratulated the player for solving the puzzle.

Interestingly, many considered the inactive teleport a glitch. However, this was disproved by Romero, who revealed that from, the very beginning, it was a secret that required finding a way to activate it.

Silent Hill 2 – hidden minimap and free save games

For many horror fans, Silent Hill 2 remains the best representative of the entire genre. However, this compilation is not about virtual spooks – it's about secrets that took a long time to find. This includes a minimap and the option to save the game at any point during play. Interestingly, the first of these secrets had been known to the community for a long time, but its activation required digging through the game's files.

It wasn't until a few years after it was discovered in the files (and actually seventeen years after the release) that the way to activate both secrets directly in the game became apparent. It was based on completing Silent Hill 2 with the secret ending featuring a dog. This alone took a lot of effort. The next step was to switch the controller to control type 2 and press Start + L2 + square + L3. Once this action was performed, a minimap appeared on the screen.

What about the option to save at any point in the game? This was achieved in the same way, but a different combination: left arrow + left analog to the left + right analog to the left + L2 + L1 + L3. Well, a little more difficult than the minimap, right? These codes did not work in every version of the game, too.

Paul Musiolik

Started writing about games on the SquareZone website. Later, he wrote and managed the non-existent PSSite.com, and currently runs his own blog about games. He hasn't yet written a text that he would be 100% satisfied with. He started his adventure with games at the age of 3, when he managed to convince his father to buy a C64 computer. The love for electronic entertainment awakened by Flimbo's Quest blossomed during the first adventures with Heroes of Might & Magic, reaching its peak after purchasing the first PlayStation. As he grew older, he had more encounters with Nintendo portable consoles, and also returned to the PC as an additional gaming platform. He collects games and is a fan of emulation.
