Table of Contents
When the next installment of GTA or The Legend of Zelda comes out, it's hard not to guess that we'll be dealing with a hit. However, there are also positions that become unexpectedly popular or get great reviews, even though almost nobody heard about them prior to release. I cordially invite you to a short review of the most surprising productions of October 2021.
Gloomhaven
What is Gloomhaven?
A digital adaptation of the fantasy adventure board game. It was all possible thanks to money raised during two crowdfunding campaigns. This title is faithful to the original, which means combat takes place in a turn-based system. During the exploration, we go through randomly generated dungeons (roguelike elements), search for treasures and defeat more creatures lurking in the darkness.
What did it surprise us with?
The reception was very warm and the game quite popular (for a board game adaptation). Reviewers emphasize, above all, fidelity to the table-top original, a great combat system, and an excellent transfer of intricate mechanics to the digital world. What's more, at its peak, Gloomhaven had nearly 7,000 concurrent players Steam.
Is it worth it?
If you like turn-based combat, dungeon exploration and games for tens (or even hundreds) of hours, you can confidently go for the production of Flaming Fowl Studios. The high average rating on Metacritic (81/100) and positive player votes make Gloomhaven one of the most interesting options in the tactical RPG category.
