REBUILD 3 IN A NUTSHELL
  1. Producer: Northway Games
  2. Publisher: Northway Games
  3. Release date: September 2015

In Rebuild 3: Gangs of Deadsville we play as a mayor of a small town, inhabited by survivors of the zombie apocalypse who are trying to make ends meet. The game begins long after the apocalypse, things have mostly settled – life can be rebuilt, but it won't be simple, and the environment is far from benign.

This idea was realized in form a classic city manager, seasoned with survival elements. The town is run down, and we have to rebuild it brick by brick. Instead of erecting new structures, we take over old ones, clean them up, then renovate and barricade them.

We must fight disease and protect the community from bandits. The engine tracks the moods of our subordinates and if we don't sort things out, the subordinates may rebel. It is necessary to make difficult moral choices from time to time, ultimately leading to one of several alternative endings.

Crying Suns

CRYING SUNS IN A NUTSHELL
  1. Developer: Alt Shift
  2. Publisher: Humble Games
  3. Release date: June 25, 2020

Last year, we finally got the mobile version of Crying Suns. It's a space roguelike strategy that, in a nutshell, can be described as an extended version of FTL: Faster Than Light, set in a universe heavily inspired by the Dune and Foundation series.

In Crying Suns, we play the commander of a space fleet belonging to a fading galactic empire. Our people's last chance for survival is to reach a distant planet where all human technological knowledge is stored. The plot proves to be surprisingly developed for a roguelike, offering a rich history of the future world and a story full of surprising twists and turns.

During the game, we command the fleet, manage resources, and develop the abilities of the crew. We also have to fight regular battles that are played in real time with active pause, on hex-based maps. An interesting addition is the division of gameplay into chapters. Inkeeping with the traditions of the roguelike genre, we often fail, but here, we only go back to the beginning of a chapter instead of starting completely over.

Crying Suns is a true masterpiece. The game has it all – a great world, an intriguing storyline, expansive gameplay, and a perfectly designed balance of challenges. On top of that, it offers an interface tailored to the specifics of touch screens. It's also gratifying that this is a fully premium production. It doesn't have any micropayments and there are no ads.
