PRISON ARCHITECT IN A NUTSHELL
  1. Developer: Introversion Software
  2. Publisher: Introversion Software
  3. Release date: May 2017

Prison Architect is another PC classic in this line-up, and another one with an excellent mobile conversion.

This production cast us in the role of the warden of a newly created prison. We start by designing the facility, then, we have to receive convicts, organize their time, manage staff, and keep order. The whole party also has to generate profit, because it's a private institution.

This sounds like a standard economic strategy, and these elements have been well executed, but the uniqueness of Prison Architect is determined by the prisoners. Each has a unique personality, needs and preferences, and the game dynamically simulates their interactions with their surroundings, guards, and other convicts. It makes the facility live its own life, and every game – different.

UNVIC AT A GLANCE
  1. Developer: Yair Morgenstern
  2. Publisher: Yair Morgenstern
  3. Release date: January 2020

Our next proposal is a game from January 2020. It's a 4X turn-based strategy that allows you to lead your own civilization from primitive beginnings to a modern superpower.

The game doesn't look very impressive on screens. The author opted for a simple retro setting, but underneath these pixels, there is an underlying, a faithful rendition of Sid Meier's Civilization V. This installment of the series is still very successful, although it has never been released on platforms other than PC. Unciv recreates the gameplay mechanisms of this hit in a mobile form so well that you quickly forget the lousy graphics.

This production offers both single and multiplayer, and as it enjoys a lot of take-up, it has no trouble finding those willing to compete online. An additional advantage is that it's an open-source project that has been made available for free on Android. You will download the whole thing without paying, and there are no micro-payments.
