Betrayal at Krondor. 10 iconic RPGs beging for remakes

The fact that the graphics of the game from almost 30 years ago aren't impressive is not surprising. What seems more interesting is that despite the passage of time, the story presented in Betrayal at Krondor is still engaging. At one time, it even had a sequel, which, however – and despite decent ratings – did not achieve the success that would allow the series to continue. This might have been caused by the fact that the game was very short.

The same cannot be said about Betrayal at Krondor. This game, which remains completely unknown to a large part of younger players, lasted up to 50 hours. If you add the side quests to that, you could spend even 12 hours more in Krondor. Unfortunately, as time went on, fewer and fewer players could play this title due to system limitations. In 2010, GOG.com came to the rescue, enabling the game to run on Windows. It's hardly a remake, but the fact is that Betrayal at Krondor is still working well.

The heroes of the game inhabit the world of Midkemia, created by fantasy writer Raymond E. Feist. Developers tried to maintain the atmosphere of his stories, while coming up with a story about own identity, maybe not as universal as the one from Torment, but also not outclassed by it. Each of the game's nine chapters ends and begins with a cutscene that builds the atmosphere of the narrative. There's enough cutscenes here to give away to at least a few RPGs, and there's even more going on in between them.

Revenant combines elements of an RPG and an arcade game. This makes it quite difficult, but also immensely satisfying, as long as you manage to master the combat system. The main story can be completed in a dozen or so hours, and the conciseness seems to benefit it a lot.
