What is the career mode?
Simply put, the career mode consists in cooking on time, given limited resources (for example, financial), and the setting that gives the game its pace and atmosphere - we are trying to save a faltering business, which we will eventually lead to the first pages of culinary guides.
We do this effectively by serving the best dishes, satisfying picky customers (including culinary critics), expanding and improving the menu and its capabilities with a set of unique abilities and passive bonuses, giving us more breathing space when you start to feel that every person on Earth wants food from you.
There is no choice of the difficulty level of the game - but with our tips (chapter "How to work effectively?"), and a small amount of training, and a balanced degree of complexity of the game, you should not only cope with it, but also enjoy it.
Your goal is a 5-star prestige level and unlocking all the recipes.
The order of play
Gameplay in Career Mode is divided into days and phases. Every day is divided into 3 "phases" corresponding to different stages of the work in the kitchen:
- preparation phase (on time, at the beginning of each day)
- the main phase (the opening time of the restaurant and the arrival of customers, then we serve food)
- cleaning phase (at the end of each day, during the time after closing the door for customers)
We can skip the preparation and cleaning phases using the options on the recipes screens, or by interacting with the clock over the stove - however, in later "days", especially when our prestige level is growing, it is extremely inadvisable.
Why? We answer this question in the chapter "How to work effectively?"
What new challenges await us in this regime?
The career mode, in addition to the already listed "attractions" in the form of a time imperative, has several additional variables in the form of "special events" and "daily challenges".
Special events
At the moment, the special events available in Cooking Simulator only take the form of a visit of an unusual client.
Currently available special clients:
- Food Critics
- Gourmets
- Derpers
While critics are vital, the gourmets and derpers can only be seen as an opportunity to get free points and money because of the higher requirements (taste of gourmet dishes, cooking time in the case of derpers).
The developers promised culinary tournaments, to which some achievements in Cooking Simulator are already related - it is not yet known how they will look.
Daily challenges
They are daily random, optional goals for which we will receive extra points. Tasks of this type are usually things like "get 20 cooking points", "get 50 fame points", "get 4 star-rating for serving X" and the like.
Unlockable ability "Tough Day" allows you to increase the number of such tasks to two.
Unlocking content
2 sets of "improvements" will help us in sorting all this out. They can be unlocked by progressing in Cooking Simulator - abilities and skills.
To discuss them fully (and give you advice on the best way to develop), we have dedicated a separate chapter to them - called "Skills and Abilities."
In addition, as part of the progression, we unlock new recipes and ingredients for them, as well as visual improvements to our kitchen - all this we describe in the chapter "Game Mechanics."
