On this page of our guide you can find starting tips for players beginning their adventure with Atlas Fallen. This representative of the action RPG genre isn't as demanding as it would seem, but our tips which broach topics like exploration and abilities, may prove to be helpful during initial hours with the game.
- Listen to what Nyaal has to say
- Look for Anvils
- Upgrade armor to get Perk points
- Explore the world thoroughly
- Aim for specific parts of enemies' bodies
- Experiment with abilities
- Complete side quests as soon as they appear
Listen to what Nyaal has to say
Nyaal is an important character in the storyline, more so that he accompanies you practically all the time. However, story purposes aren't all there is to him - in Atlas Fallen, it is worth listening to what he has to say at different times during playing. Because, Nyaal:
- informs when there is a buried Anvil in proximity - Anvils are very important objects in the game, used for many different purposes (more on the topic of Anvils can be viewed below).
- speaks when he notices a kite - a symbol meaning that a Travelling Vendor is nearby. After listening to such a remark, look at the sky to locate the Vendor and thus be able to browse his stock e.g. for various crafting materials.
- gives combat tips;
- sometimes, discusses the task at hand or a obtained collectible. Thanks to his insight, you'll learn more about the world.
Look for Anvils
Anvils are objects hidden throughout the world of Atlas Fallen. Make sure to find every last one, as they:
- allow saving your progress - when it comes to manual saving, this is the only available option of doing it. Sometimes, the game saves progress automatically and you can load those states.
- interacting with them allow upgrading the Gauntlet, armor, and Momentum Bar.
- serve as fast travel stations;
- you can replenish health and Idol charges at them.
Nyaal will help you in finding next Anvils and will remark when one is in proximity. A buried Anvil has to be unearthed by using Unearth.
Upgrade armor to get Perk points
You'll get access to new armor sets in Atlas Fallen along with your progress in the game. For example, they can be bought at Merchants or received as a reward for completing certain tasks. Remember to upgrade carried armor sets regularly - this will improve their statistics. You can only do that at Anvils and the action requires Essence Dust. Essence Dust is received for:
- defeating opponents;
- as a reward for completing tasks.
Improving armor is worth it not only because of better statistics, but receiving additional Perk points. After a single upgrade of an armor, you'll receive 1 Perk point. Once you got more of them, you can spend them on ability upgrades e.g. generating extra momentum at the beginning of a battle, additional Idol charge or increasing the chance of rare plants appearing.
Explore the world thoroughly
It may sound trivial, but thorough exploration in Atlas Fallen is really important. Apart from finds that only the richest collectors crave (e.g. journals), it is worth looking for:
- Chests - contain materials or sometimes even Essence Stones.
- plants and crafting materials - needed to create and upgrade Essence Stones;
- Heavenly Altars - you won't encounter many of these, but destroying them yields Essence Dust;
- artifacts that can be sold later.
Vantage Points should help you in locating the above items.
We've marked all locations of note on our interactive map accessible from gamepressure.com.
Aim for specific parts of enemies' bodies
During fights with tougher opponents, pay attention to a drawing of their body appearing in the top left corner of the screen. Every body part has a separate health bar.
- Some enemies have weak points called catalysts - they are marked in red. Aim at and attack them, as once the health of these body parts fall to zero, the enemy is defeated.
- Attacking the body parts marked in yellow won't kill the opponent, but increase the chance of looting additional items.
- If any part of the opponent lights in blue, it means that you cannot block the attack coming from it.
Experiment with abilities
Essence Stones mean extra abilities or boosts that can be used during combat. Don't be afraid to experiment with the stone setup, especially if you encounter an enemy that you can't handle. At a certain point in the game, you'll receive access to two additional Essence Stone bars, between which you can switch while outside of combat. At higher difficulty levels adjusting the setup before battling certain opponents is a must. Essence Stones (or recipes for crafting them), can be received:
- from Chests buried underneath the sand;
- from defeated opponents (only some of them);
- from Merchants;
- as rewards for completing certain tasks.
Every Stone can be upgraded by spending crafting materials e.g. plants.
Complete side quests as soon as they appear
If you are in need of what is offered as a reward for completing a certain task, don't wait to undertake it.After moving to a new region, unfinished quests will be permanently cancelled, meaning you won't be able to complete them later - this happens after leaving Caladrias and Bastengar to some extend. This approach is explained by the story.
