How to create Aluminum in Astroneer? Astroneer Guide and Tips
Last update: 05 June 2019
Aluminum is very important in Astroneer. You need it to create vehicles such as Buggy. Aluminum can't be found directly in the game world like, for example, Compound material - it must be produced in a special way. On this page, you will find a detailed method of creating Aluminum in Astroneer.
How to create Aluminum?
As mentioned above, Aluminum can't be found on the surface or in caves - it must be crafted. This will require the construction of two facilities and the extraction of one material -Laterite. Only after you melt the Laterite in the Smelting Furnace, you will get Aluminum. Below you will learn step by step how to create Aluminum.

Build Smelting Furnace
The first step to obtaining Aluminum is the build a Smelting Furnace. You can build it by using the basic printer placed on the platform - the objects you get at the beginning of the game. Before you see the Smelting Furnace in the printer, you will need to unlock it for 250 bytes in the Research Catalog. Besides that, you also need materials - 2x Resin and 1x Compound. You should have no problems finding them in the immediate vicinity on the surface.
Create a Large Platform
A Smelting Furnace must be installed on a Large Platform, so it is yet another object you have to craft. To do this, you need 2x Resin, because, like a Smelting Furnace, you create a Large Platform on the starting objects.
Get Laterite
The last step is to get a material called Laterite - see the picture above. You should have no problems finding this resource - it is found in most caves. Aluminum is crafted from Laterite.
After getting Laterite, you can craft Aluminum. Place the Smelting Furnace on the Large Platform and connect it to an energy source (e.g. the main base). Place the Laterite inside it and run the furnace- you will get Aluminum. One unit of Laterite is converted into one unit of Aluminum.
