Crafting in Astroneer Astroneer Guide and Tips
Last update: 14 June 2019
In Astroneer, crafting is a core element of gameplay. By creating objects and vehicles, you can expand your base and get better items. Vehicles are very helpful in exploring the world. Some vehicles, like Shuttle, allow you to travel to other planets. Because of that, understanding the crafting system is very important. On this page, you will learn how to create new objects and vehicles, as well as how to acquire new blueprints.
How to create new objects and vehicles?
You can create items in four different objects:
- Your character's backpack
- Small Printer
- Medium Printer
- Large Printer
You get a backpack and a Medium Printer at the beginning of the game. To get a complete crafting set, you need to create a Small Printer by using 1x Compound in your backpack, and a Large Printer by using 3x Compound in the Medium Printer.
A Medium Printer and a Large Printer must be installed on platforms - a Medium Platform and a Large Platform respectively (a backpack and a Small printer work anywhere). Once you are done with crafting these objects, it is necessary to connect them to a power supply - at the beginning, it is best to connect them to the main base. After opening the printer menu, you will see the objects you can create, and the cost expressed in resources. In the beginning, only the main objects will be available - you need to get new blueprints to access the additional ones.
Don't know how to connect the printer to a power source? Check out the "Energy" page in our guide.
How to get new blueprints?
To access new objects or vehicles, you must first learn the correct schematic. All recipes are in the Research Catalog - you can open it directly from your backpack. You get blueprints by spending bytes - you get them from Sample Research. Bytes are the only limitation in accessing a recipe - if you got the required number of bytes, you can buy a scheme for even the most complex objects.
