Developing commanderies (districts) in Total War Three Kingdoms Total War Three Kingdoms guide, tips
Last update: 30 May 2019
In Total War: Three Kingdoms, commanderies act as districts - groups of cities (there are dozens of them on the map). Conquering them is one of the most important tasks in the game. Their appropriate development is crucial to the success of the campaign - it is worth understanding how they work. In this chapter, you will find an explanation of the mechanics associated with the development of commanderies, as well as individual settlements.
Commanderies - the basics
As mentioned in the introduction, commanderies are the equivalent of districts found in, e.g. two Total War: Warhammer games. Commanderies, in turn, consist of several settlements, among which there is a capital. In single settlements, you can build only one building, which can then be improved. Inside the capital, the maximum number of buildings depends on the town's level - the maximum number is 6. Commanderies can consist of 2 to a maximum of 4 settlements.
The settlements within the commandery are closely related to each other - any bonuses offered by the buildings (increased revenue or public order, reduced corruption, etc.), and characters managing a given commandery, affect only the settlements that are in it - the exception are the buildings that offer global bonuses, as well as characters whose posts affect the entire faction.
Commandery development
The development of commandery takes place on several levels, namely:
- Development of the main building in the commandery. It is available only in the commandery's capital, and its level affects the maximum number of people, income, garrison, the stability of the walls and, above all, the number of available places in the capital for construction.
- Construction and expansion of buildings inside the commandery's capital. Initially, you have 2-3 places for construction, but with the development of the main building, this number will increase to 6.
- Construction and development of buildings in settlements. Settlements that are not the capital there is one place for building - you can construct any building and level it up to 5 (maximum level).
Commanderies - tips
Finally, it is worth mentioning a few tips for managing commanderies, namely:
- Don't develop the main building in the capital too fast. This costs a lot, doesn't give great advantages, and it also increases the demand for food. Limit your development until you actually need to move to the next level, for example, to increase the garrison or unlock a new level of buildings.
- Each commandery deals with its own corruption and public order problems, therefore it is necessary regularly to control them. Their description can be found in separate chapters of the guide.
- If you want the public order to grow fast, you can turn off the taxes within the commanderies. You won't collect taxes and make food, but this will significantly increase the level of public order.
- Build at least one building that increases the level of public order and the building that reduces corruption in each of the commanderies. These two mechanics significantly worsen life in later parts of the campaign - construct these buildings and the problem will almost disappear.
