Theft and selling loot in Thief Simulator Thief Simulator Guide and Tips

Last update: 29 November 2018

Theft is the essence of Thief Simulator. You have to do that during every mission. Sell stolen goods to be able to afford more tools. In this chapter, you can learn about theft mechanics and how to sell loot.

Theft

The process starts with breaking into a house. You can go through any door - provided that you have the right tools to open it - through a window (by cutting a hole or by breaking glass) or by climbing a balcony. All tools used throughout the game along with their short descriptions can be found in "Available tools" chapter.

Time for looking for loot. Some of the items like TV, audio system, paintings or small electronic devices will be left in plain sight. However, some of the items can be hidden in dozens or hundreds of stashes. Loot is random - the game chooses different items every time you visit a house. Pay attention to electronic devices (hard drives, laptops, routers etc.), jewelry and money. Electronic devices have the highest value in relations to their weight. Money doesn't take up any space in your backpack - you can take as much as you want to.

Large items should be mentioned here - TVs, microwaves, paintings, recorders. Everything that must be carried by your character with their own hands instead of putting them into the backpack - you need to carry these items to your car. Open the car trunk and approach the back of your vehicle - the object carried by your character will be automatically moved into the car trunk. Close the trunk - this protects you from getting detected by a pedestrian. After that, you can take your loot to the pawn shop.

Escaping from the place of theft

You got your backpack full of valuable loot, you checked all drawers for money, and you stole a large item (you can steal one at a time - you won't fit a lot in your car trunk) - time to run away. The best idea is to follow the same path you have entered the house - this is the safest option.

Simply leave a house unnoticed, provided that you don't carry any large objects in your hands. After that, you can move outside without any worries - none of the pedestrians will pay attention to you as long as you don't run with a crowbar or sneak. Avoid other characters when you are carrying something big. Place this item on the ground when you know that you won't be able to avoid an NPC - that pedestrian won't pay attention to the item. Wait for the NPC to move away and then pick up the item. Go to the car, put your loot and leave the location.

Time for the easiest step - selling loot. However, there is one problem here - you can sell items at a pawn shop (go there after you leave Greenview) but the owner will offer you really low prices. Instead, you can leave your loot in your stash in the base and then use them in one of the two ways:

  1. Sell them on the BlackBay page (use the computer in your base) - this page has item requests that change from time to time. This option will give you more money than selling them at the pawn shop.
  2. Use them in missions - the majority of the side missions (Rent-a-Thug tab) requires you to steal a specific item or to get them in larger quantities. Complete them to get much more money than selling these items at the pawn shop.
The BlackBay portal allows you to sell items for much more than you would get from the pawn shop. - Theft and selling loot in Thief Simulator - Gameplay mechanics - Thief Simulator Guide

Don't sell jewelry until you unlock Appraisal 2 and Jewelry Tools skills. They allow you to dismantle jewelry into pieces - these parts will sell for more than an entire piece.
