Time Attacks in Shadow of the Colossus Shadow of the Colossus Guide, walkthrough
Last update: 01 February 2018
You can continue to Time Attacks once you've managed to complete the game on any difficulty level. Their difficulty level is the same as the on which you've completed the game, so if you plan to complete the story on easy difficulty level and complete Time Attacks on hard - this is not possible. Once you've managed to finish the game on any difficulty level, you can continue in New Game+ - a mode that requires a saved game where you've beaten all 16 colossi. Acquiring all items will require completing the game two times - on normal and hard difficulty levels - and defeating all bosses two times in Time Attacks on both difficulty levels. Defeating the bosses in Time Attacks on hard won't give you the same rewards as defeating them on the normal difficulty level.
The rules are simple: crouch (R2) before a chosen sculpture to begin a time attack. You can repeat them as many times as you like or restart them during combat. Unfortunately, you can't use any items during the fight and your statistics are based on the guidelines for each encounter (no health and strength boosts), which makes the fights more difficult than in the standard game.
Time Attack Rewards
Completed Time Attack encounters yield various rewards, different for normal and hard difficulty levels. The list of items and their pre-requisites can be found in the game menu (open the map and press Triangle). The items can be worn and carried across the game world, but cannot be used during different Time Attacks - you can use them during normal games and complete the story with their help.
Note - The item sets for Normal and Hard difficulty levels are different and are awarded separately.
When you complete a given number of challenges, a new item will appear in a small pond at the end of the main corridor of the temple. New items will be lit in blue - all you have to do is to enter the pond and pick them up (R2) to gain access to them in your inventory. Pick up all items from both modes (as a single set) to receive a trophy (Speed King).
