Windows 10 With Windows 11 Features; Possible Game Performance Boost

One of the features of Windows 11, which were created with gamers in mind, will also appear in Windows 10. We are talking about DirectStorage, which will help us reduce loading times.

IN A NUTSHELL:
  • DirectStorage will be available on Windows 10;
  • The feature will require system update 1909 or later;
  • It will increase the loading speed of games.

Windows 11 puts some effort in making gamers' lives easier. The most important means to achieve this goal are the Auto HDR and DirectStorage functions, the first of which has so far been available only on Microsoft consoles. It turns out, however, that not only owners of the upcoming OS will be able to take advantage of them. The Redmond giant announced announced that the latter of these technologies will also appear on Windows 10.

DirectStorage is a feature that uses the capabilities of NVMe SSDs to quickly move resources directly to the GPU. This kind of solution speeds up decompression and helps optimize CPU performance by bypassing it in the entire process. This means faster texture loading and shorter loading times. DirectStorage's operation is expected to be especially beneficial for games set in vast open worlds.

To take advantage of the above feature on Windows 10, we will need update 1909 or later. It is also necessary to have an NVMe SSD, as DirectStorage is not compatible with slower HDDs. At the same time, Microsoft admitted that on the older system this technology will not work as well as on Windows 11. Nevertheless, it should still offer satisfactory results and enable us to accelerate games without problems.
