Windows 10++ Brings Big Changes to Windows 10
We got some information about another major update for Windows 10. The update (known as „Cobalt”, but also as „Windows 10++”) will introduce, among other things, significant changes in the interface of Microsoft's operating system.
You can love or hate Windows 10 updates, but one thing is for sure: every year Microsoft provides us with another large package of fixes and novelties for its operating system. That said, next year's update will apparently be even bigger than all that came before. Windows Central reports a plan to redesign Windows 10 interface under the code name "Sun Valley". As we read, Microsoft wants to adjust the appearance of the OS to the expectations of modern users, which in practice is to translate into reworking, among others, the Start menu, action center and file explorer.
The new interface will be implemented as a part of a major update codenamed "Cobalt", to be released in the second half of 2021. ZDNet adds that there is an alternative name for the update among Microsoft's programmers: Windows 10++. Apparently, in the eyes of the developers, it will be more than just another annual package of improvements and modest novelties. We also know that some of the changes will be inspired by Windows 10X, a system dedicated to mobile devices, including Microsoft's dual screen tablet announced a year ago. No wonder, because the work on "Cobalt" is led by Panos Panay, who heads the Surface team (and since February also the Windows section).
Of course, it's impossible to guess the details of the great update. However, we've already seen how Microsoft imagined the new Windows 10 interface (and twice). Is this how the end result will look like? We're waiting for more and hopefully more detailed information from the Redmond giant.
