What's on The Other Side of The Witcher Coin? Sebastian Kalemba's Riddle Keeps CD Projekt RED Fans Hooked
Fans have begun to look for more meaning in the image attached to The Witcher 4's announcement. Theories that point to the location of the upcoming game's plot have emerged.
Yesterday, CD Projekt RED published financial results for the third quarter of 2024. We have learned that the Polish company is doing well, primarily due to the strong sales of Cyberpunk 2077 and the Phantom Liberty DLC. By the way, it was announced that Project Polaris, more commonly known as The Witcher 4, has entered the "most intense" phase of development. The message was accompanied by a mysterious image that intrigued some players.
Mysterious coin
Sebastian Kalemba, who is a director at CD Projekt RED, posted a picture on X, presenting several coins. He also mentioned their "other side." More curious fans have started to search for more significant details, hoping to discover new information about The Witcher 4.
The coin in the foreground appears to depict a partially obscured sun, casting rays onto the slope of a cliff. This may indicate an eclipse and therefore the most popular theory among players is that the coin shows the Curse of the Black Sun. According to the wiki, this prophecy was most widespread in the far north, including Kovir. For this reason, some fans believe that this is where the action of the fourth Witcher may take place.
Other people believe the image depicts a Defier's oren. The oren, as described in The Wild Hunt, features Falka on the reverse side, known for instigating a rebellion against her father to seize the throne of Redania. According to supporters of this theory, The Witcher 4 will take us to those times.
In contrast, the editor of Rock Paper Shotgun believes that the flip side of the coin may simply feature a witcher, perhaps with the game title added. He also noticed that CD Projekt RED might decide to remove the number 4 from it in order to reach a wider audience of consumers. He argued that a long time has passed since the release of The Witcher 3, so people unfamiliar with this game may not want to buy a product with a "4" in the title.
However, let's note that these are just theories, which may completely miss the truth. The picture shared by Kalemba might not have any deeper meaning as well.
